Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

Please stand and let us pray. Kindly lead the (Students, pray)
prayer (name of the student).

2. Greetings

Good morning class “Good morning, Ma'am”

3 minutes 3. Classroom Management

Before you take your sit, kindly pick-up (Students pick-up pieces of
pisces of papers under your chair and papers and arrange their
arrange your chair properly. chairs.)

4. Checking of Attendance

Class secretary, do we have any absent for “Yes/No ma'am”

today?

A. Review

Based on our past lesson, how will you find “By adding the value of the
the coordinates of the midpoint of a line two points in the line segment
segment? the dividing them into two,
Ma’am.”

Very good, thank you!

B. Motivation

"4 PICS, 1 WORD"

Instruction: Guess the correct word that best

describes the four pictures. The first one to
raise their hands and guess/give the correct
word or answer will have a reward.

*Measure

*Position

*Divide

*Quarter

Questions:
1. What words did you encounter from the “Measure, Position, Divide,
activity? Quarter.”

2. What do you feel with the activity? (Answer may vary)

3 Do these words connected to each other? “Yes, Ma'am”

Proper Lesson
A. Presentation
1 minute "Our topic for today is the measure of
position on quartile for ungrouped data"

B. Activity
"ACTIVITY TIME"

5 minutes “I will divide you into two groups. The right

side is group 1 and the left side is group 2.
You will only be given 5 minutes to finish
the task. Write the answer in the manila
paper and paste it on the board. Choose a
representative to present the work in front of
the class.”

“Am I clear?” “Yes, Ma'am”

A group of students obtained the following

scores in their statistics quiz:

8,2,5,4,8,5,7,1,3,6,9

First, arrange the scores in ascending order:

_,_,_,_,_,_,_,_,_, _,_

“Finished or unfinished, representative in

each group will read their groupmates work.
Let's start with the first group.”
(Group 1 representative will
present their work)

“Let's give 5 claps, next is the group 2.”

(Group 2 representative will

present their work)

“Thank you group 2. Let's give them 5 claps

too.”

C. Analysis

1. Class how was the activity?

2. Did you find it difficult or easy?

3. What makes it difficult?

4. What makes it easy?

5. So, based on the activity, what do

you mean by quartile?

6. How were you able to obtain the

middle quartile?

7. How about the lower and upper

quartile?

D. Discussion

Quartile
- divides a sorted data set into 4 equal parts,
so that each part represents ¼ or 25 % of the
data set.

They are following: first quartile or lower

quartiles, second quartile or median, and
third quartile or upper quartile.

Let us have another example.

Example:

Find the median, lower quartile and upper

quartile of the following data.

12, 5, 28, 30, 7, 36, 14, 42, 15, 53, 25

First step is to arrange the data in ascending

order.

5, 7, 12, 14, 15, 22, 25, 30, 36, 42, 53

Second, identify the middle quartile,

counting the number of data items.
- 11

Third, dividing it half.

- 6th term is our median
- middle quartile is 22.

Fourth, finding lower quartile. Determine its

median.
- 12 as our lower quartile

Lastly, finding upper quartile. Determine its

median.
-36 as our upper quartile.

Generalization

1. Based on the discussion, what is quartile? (Student 1 will answer)

2. How about the median? Lower quartile? (Student 2 will answer.

And upper quartile? Student 3 will answer.
Student 4 will answer.)

Application

Direction: Find the first quartile, second

quartile, and the third quartile, given the
score of 10 students in their Mathematics.

4, 9, 7, 14, 10, 8, 12, 15, 6, 11, 17 In ascending order:

4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14,15,
17

Lower quartile: 7
Middle quartile: 10
Upper quartile: 14

How can we use the method of finding

quartiles in real-life setting? Give an (Answer may vary)
example of its application.

Do you have any questions? “Yes/No, Ma'am”

Assessment
Direction: Find the lower, middle and upper quartiles of the following data sets.
1. There are 15 students who took the entrance examination at Cantilan National High School
and their scores are as follows.
44, 42, 40, 38, 46, 29, 34, 29, 39, 26, 23, 43, 44, 29, 37.
Answer:
In ascending order.
23, 26 29, 29, 29, 34, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 44, 46
Lower quartile: 29
Middle quartile: 38
Upper quartile: 43
2. There are students who want to join the MTAP- district level competition. In order to identify
who will be the one to participate, the mathematics teacher conducted a preliminary 50-item test.
These are the scores.
24, 38, 44, 34, 27, 32, 31, 29, 41, 25, 22, 19, 26, 45, 21.
Answer:
In ascending order.
19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 31, 32, 34, 38, 41, 44, 45
Lower quartile: 24
Middle quartile: 29
Upper quartile:38
3. The main point is to divide the data into four equal parts.
Answer: Quartile
4. Is the value under which 25% of data points are found when they are arranged in increasing
order.
Answer: Lower quartile/1st quartile
5. Is the numerical value midway between the first and third quartile.
Answer: Second quartile/ median
