1. Find the following limits (if exists)

(a) Limit does not exist.
(b) Limit does not exist.
(c) 5 − 3i
(d) Limit does not exist.

2. Test the continuity of the following functions at z = 0

(a) Not continuous at z = 0.
(b) Not continuous at z = 0.
(c) Not continuous at z = 0.

3. Test the differentiability of the following functions at z = 0

(a) Not differentiable at z = 0.
(b) Not differentiable at z = 0.
(c) Differentiable at z = 0.

4. (a) limx→0 f (x) = f (0).

(b) f ′ (0) does not exist.

5. To show f ′ (0) does not exist, put y = mx.

6. (a) Show that uxx + uyy = 0. To find its harmonic conjugate use dv = vx dx + vy dy =
−uy + ux dy.
(b) Show that uxx + uyy = 0. To find its harmonic conjugate use dv = vx dx + vy dy =
−uy + ux dy.
(c) (a) Show that uxx + uyy = 0. To find its harmonic conjugate use dv = vx dx + vy dy =
−uy + ux dy.
(d) Show that urr + 1r ur + r12 uθθ = 0. To find its harmonic conjugate use dv = vr dr+vθ dθ =
− 1r uθ dr + rur dθ.

7. Apply Cauchy-Riemann equations.

8. limx→0 f (x) = f (0) and Cauchy-Riemann equations are not satisfied.

9. (a) Use f ′ (z) − ux + ivx = 0 = vy − iuy .

(b) Use Cauchy-Riemann equations to show that f ′ (z) = 0.
(c) Use Cauchy-Riemann equations to show that f ′ (z) = 0.
(d) Differentiate (partially) |f (z)|2 = c2 with respect to x and y and then eliminate uy .

10. Show that Re f (z) is not harmonic.

11. From Cauchy-Riemann equations, f (z) can be differentiable atmost at the lines x = −1
or y = 0. In either case, f (z) is nowhere analytic.

12. Using Milne Thomson method we get f (z) = z 2 + c. So, f (3 + 2i) = 5 + 12i.
