Writing a biography
Objectives:
1- To revise the elements of a good biography.
2- Organize information into a coherent narrative.
3- To write and edit for clarity and readability.

Revision: To revise the elements of a good biography


1-Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes)
To set lesson context and engage students
The students are going to watch a video about King Abdulaziz( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EKOvfsPOzZP-
M5prLZhajwsm6stp19lv/view?usp=drive_link ) as a reminder of the elements of a good biography, they are going to answer
the following question( When and where was king Abdulaziz born ?
3-Useful Language (3-5 minutes)
To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks
In this stage
The students are going to do activity number 2. I’m going to refer to the video they have watched about king Abdulaziz.
T: you have three minutes to match the words in the first column 12345 to the equivalent letter A, B C,D and E according to
video you have watched king Abdulaziz and you have to work individually.
When the time is finished, I’m going to ask the students to do pair check after they finish as a feedback I am going to show a
semantic map on the board, in the middle of the semantic map, I’m going to write the word biography, and around the word
biography, I am going to write the main parts of the biography for example, the introduction, the back history, the turning
point, the impact and the conclusion, and ask the students about what we should write in each part, or in each section and
elicit the answers from the students.
4- Productive Task (15-20 minutes)
To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills
In this stage
1-I am going to ask the students rearrange the elements of another biography about King Abdullah.
2-I am going to tell the students, you have 5 minutes , work in pairs and use this map (pointing to the semantic map on the
board) rearrange the biography of king Abdullah.
3-When the time is finished; I am going to say you have 10 minutes to rewrite about King Abdullah. I am going to monitor
the students while they are writing about the king they have chosen.
4-when the time is finished, they are going to display their handouts on the wall and they go around to find out which
biography implied all the elements, they also can use the stars or signs in order to identify which biography implied all the
elements.
5- Feedback and Error Correction(3-5 minutes)
To provide feedback on students' production and use of language.
In this stage
I am going to collect their writing or take photos of them using my mobile phone and give them a content and language
feedback, and if there is time, I’m going to give them the language feedback on the board.

Homework: To choose one of the kings and write a biography including the same elements.
Review/Wrap-Up/Closure: To highlight elements of a biography
Expectations: The students are expected to be able to write a good biography about one of the kings following the elements of the biography.
