3. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
PATENT SCHOOL
The Centre for Intellectual Asset Protection (CIAP) is deeply committed to enhancing
the expertise of faculty members and students in the area of intellectual property
rights (IPR). This commitment is realized through a series of custom-designed IPR
workshops called "Patent School"
Some key aspects of these workshops include:
Target audience: The workshops are designed for faculty members and students of
the institution.
Content: The workshops cover various aspects of IPR, including patent laws, filing
procedures, and strategies for protecting and managing intellectual assets
By organizing and conducting these Patent School workshops, CIAP plays a crucial
role in fostering a strong understanding of IPR among its faculty and students,
ultimately contributing to the development of a more innovative and entrepreneurial
culture within the institution.
Since 2021, this patent school is conducted once in each semester. We have
successfully organized four editions in the year 2021 and 2022.
4. COMMERCIALISATION
Licensing and technology transfer: The center is responsible for facilitating the
licensing and transfer of these IP assets and know-how to external entities for further
development and commercialization.
Collaboration with external partners: CIAP may collaborate with external partners,
including other universities or organizations, to facilitate the transfer of technology
and know-how.
The process for licensing SRMIST's technologies involves the following steps:
1. Identification and assessment of the technology: Interested companies can explore
available technologies for licensing from the list provided on the CIAP website, the
list of recently filed IP on the CIAP website, and SRMIST's website.
2. Query regarding technology: Once the technology has been identified, the company
may contact the CIAP technology transfer team at admin.ciap@srmist.edu.in to
resolve queries and obtain non-confidential information.
3. Request for additional technical information: If additional technical and scientific
details are required, the company and CIAP, SRMIST may enter into a Non-
Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
4. Submission of License Application: After deciding to pursue a technology for
licensing, the company will be asked to submit a letter of intent on their letterhead
along with a license application.
5. Assessment of application by CIAP: Upon receiving the license application, CIAP
will conduct a quick assessment and provide a response.
6. Sharing of term sheet: Following the assessment, CIAP will propose a term sheet to
the company.
7. Negotiation, if necessary: Any required negotiation will take place.
8. Execution of License agreement: Upon agreement, the license is executed, enabling
the company to manufacture, sell, and market the technology.
For any queries, companies can reach out to admin.ciap@srmist.edu.in
This process aligns with the systematic procedure of technology transfer, which
involves passing documented knowledge and experience gained during development
and/or commercialization to an appropriate, responsible, and authorized party.
The goal of technology transfer activities is to transfer product and process knowledge
between development and manufacturing, and within or between manufacturing sites
to achieve product realization.
