Semester : IV
Branch : CSE
Title of the course: Probability and Statistics Due Date: 19-03-2024, 5:00PM
__________________________________________________________________
Note:
 Write solutions for all the questions, Assignment solutions accepted in papers with clear step by step
explanation.
 After completion of the due date any submissions are not acceptable and No marks will be awarded.
 Mode of submission Hard Copy (after correction upload the same copy in Moodle (without fail.)

1. Define t – distribution. Write down its properties & applications.

2. A certain stimulus administered to each of the 12 patients resulted the following increments of blood
pressure: 6, 2, 8, -1, 8, 0, -2, 1, 5, 0, 5, 7. Can it be concluded that the stimulus has significant effect in
increasing the blood pressure.
3. The heights of 10 males of a given locality are found to be 70, 67, 62, 68, 61, 68, 70, 64, 64, 66 inches.
Is it reasonable to believe that the average height is greater than 64 inches? Test at 5% significance
level assuming that for 9 degrees of freedom P(t>1.83) = 0.05.
4. A group of boys and girls were given an intelligence test. The mean score, S. Ps and numbers in each
group are as follows:
Boys Girls
Mean 124 121
S.D 12 10
Sample size 18 14

Is the mean score of boy’s significant different form that of girls?

5. A random sample of size 25 from a normal population has the mean 𝑥̅ = 47.5 and the standard
deviation s = 8.4. Does this information tend to support or refuse the obtain that the mean of the
population is µ = 42.5? (t table value is 2.797).
6. Describe the F – test for equality of variances of the two populations.
7. Define χ2 – distribution. Write the applications of χ2 – distribution.
8. In an experiment of immunization of cattle from Tuberculosis, the following results were
Obtained:

Affected Un Affected
Inoculated: 12 28
Not Inoculated: 13 7

Examine the effect of vaccine in controlling the incidence of the disease.
