Title of the Micro-project:
Collect technical specifications of gear pumps and vane pumps.
1) Introduction:
A. Gear Pump:
Gear pumps are positive displacement rotary pumps that transport liquids using rotating
gears. They function through the use of two or more internal gears that create vacuum
pressure, propelling the fluid media. Gear pumps are compact, high pressure pumps which
provide a steady and pulseless fluid flow comparable to double diaphragm
pumps and peristaltic pumps. They are best suited for high viscosity pumping applications
such as oils, plastics, paint, adhesives, or soaps.
External gear pumps have close tolerances and shaft support on both sides of the gears.
This allows them to run to pressures beyond 3,000 psi / 200 bar and also provide greater flow
control and a more reliable measure of liquid passing through a pump.
It also means they are not well suited to handling abrasive or extreme high temperature fluids.
Slippage, which reduces efficiency and flow, increases as viscosity decreases and approaches
zero at 5000 SSU (Saybolt Universal Seconds).
B) VANE PUMPS:
Vane pumps are positive displacement pumps that use vanes mounted on a rotor to trap and
move fluid through the pump. They are widely used in various industries for their simplicity,
reliability, and versatility. Vane pumps are versatile and reliable positive displacement pumps
commonly used in various industries for fluid transfer and hydraulic applications. They
operate based on the principle of positive displacement, where fluid is moved by trapping it
between rotating vanes and the pump housing. Vane pumps are known for their efficiency,
smooth operation, and ability to handle a wide range of fluid viscosities and temperatures
Applications: Vane pumps are used in many industries, including automotive, industrial,
hydraulic, and marine applications. They are commonly found in hydraulic systems, fuel
transfer systems, lubrication systems, and more
Unbalanced Vane Pump are a type of positive displacement pump that utilizes the principle of
positive displacement to move fluids through a system. They are widely used in various
industries for their simplicity, reliability, and versatility. The design of Unbalanced Vane
Pump allows for efficient fluid transfer and is well-suited for applications requiring moderate
flow rates and pressures.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF UNBALANCED VANE PUMP:
Balanced Vane Pumps are a type of positive displacement pump known for their efficient and
reliable operation. Unlike Unbalanced Vane Pump where the vanes are positioned outside the
rotor, balanced Vane Pumps have the vanes located within the rotor assembly. This design
allows for a more compact and streamlined pump construction, making balanced Vane Pumps
suitable for applications where space is limited. CONCLUSION: Both gear pumps and vane
pumps offer reliable solutions for various fluid pumping applications, each with its unique set
of technical specifications.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF UNBALANCED VANE PUMP:
Variable Displacement Vane Pumps are a type of vane pump that offers the capability to
adjust the displacement volume, providing flexibility in controlling flow rates. Unlike fixed
displacement vane pumps, where the displacement volume remains constant, variable
displacement vane pumps allow for on-the-fly adjustments to meet changing system
requirements.
