Hydraulic power units (sometimes referred to as a hydraulic power

pack) is a self-contained system that generally includes a motor, a fluid
reservoir, and a pump. It works to apply the hydraulic pressure
needed to drive motors, cylinders, and other complementary parts of a
given hydraulic system.

History of HydraulicSystems

The history of hydraulic systems can be traced back to the 1646, when

Identification
Hydraulic power packs are stand-alone devices, as opposed to a
built-in power supply for hydraulic machinery. Some power packs are
large, stationary units and others are more portable. They have a
hydraulic reservoir, which houses the fluid, regulators that allow users
to control the amount of pressure the power pack delivers to a valve,
pressure supply lines and relief lines, a pump and a motor to power
the pump.

Function
Hydraulic power packs typically offer a choice of valve connections,
allowing users to connect them to a control valve or valves to power a
variety of machines. The power pack supplies hydraulic power
through a control valve to run another machine.

Maintenance
Hydraulicpowerpacksneedregularmaintenancetoextendtheirlifeandto
allowsafeoperation.Maintenanceincludescheckingthetubingfordents,
cracks or other problems, changing the hydraulic fluid and
checking the reservoir for rust orcorrosion.

Introduction

Pneumatic service Unit:

Pneumatic service units, normally consisting of
filter regulator and fog lubricator, are intended for
cleaning
compressedairforworkshoppurposesfromliquidand
solid contamination, for pressure regulation and
for
providingafineoilsprayforthelubricationforcylinder
s, valves, pneumatic toolsetc.

Airleavingacompressorishot,dirty,andwet—whichcan
damage and shorten the life of downstream
equipment, including valves, cylinders, and air tools. So

before compressed air exits the system, it needs to

AnFRL combines a filter, regulator, and
lubricator into one
componenttokeepaircompressorsystemsinoptimal
workingcondition.

FRLComponents

AnFRLhasthreeprimarycomponents:

Airline filter
Pressure regulator
Lubricator

Each of these individual components has its role,

supporting the larger air compressor system. We will
explainmoreabouttheserolesinthefollowingsections.

Airline Filter

An airline filter cleans compressed air. It strains the

air, traps solid particles (dust, dirt, rust), and separates
liquids (water, oil) entrained in the compressed air.
Filters are installed in the air line upstream of
regulators, lubricators, directional control valves, and
air-driven devices such as cylinders and air motors.
IHP [Date]

FRL System

Because airline filters remove contaminants from

pneumaticsystems,theypreventdamagetoequipment
andreduceproductionlossesduetocontaminant-
related downtime. Downtime is expensive, and it is
often the result of a contaminated and poorly
maintained compressed air system.

Selectingtheproperfiltersizeforanyapplicationshould

determined by referring to flow curves provided by
the manufacturer.

Types of AirFilters
Therearethreecommontypesofairfilters:
Generalpurpose
Coalescing (oil removal)
Vapor removal
IHP [Date]

Pressure regulators

Pressure regulators reduce and control air pressure

in compressed air systems, including rotary screw
air compressors. Regulators are also frequently
referred to as PRVs (pressure reducing valves).
IHP [Date]

Lubricator
A lubricator adds controlled quantities of tool oil into a
compressed air system to reduce the friction of moving
components. Most air tools, cylinders, valves, air
motors. General purpose filters are used to remove water
and particles while coalescing filters remove oil, and
vapor removal filters remove oil vapor andodor.

Addinglubricationtoasystem
also “washes away” compressor oils that travel
through the system in vapor form. Mineral oils
added to the system prevent synthetic compressor oil
build- up on
systemcomponents.Whenlubricatorsarenotusedina
system,acoalescingfiltershouldbeinstalledtoremove
compressor oilaerosols.

The main function of the service unit is to
provide the pneumatic system with a well
cleaned, lubricated and regulatedcompressed
air.
