The chart illustrates the percentages of self-employed people in five different countries, namely Russian

Republic, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Greece and Turkey in 1998 and 2008.

Overall, the rates of self employed workers of the total workforce in Russian Republic, Slovakia and Czech
Republic increased in a decade. In contrast, Greece and Turkey’s data witnessed a decrease at the same
time. Moreover, the proportion of self employed workers in Turkey was the highest in the both years.

In 1998 and 2000, the rates of self employed workers in Russian Republic, Slovakia and Czech Republic
ranged from 5% to under 20%. Russian Republic had 5% self employed workers in 1998, about 2% lower
than the data in 2000. About 6% was Slovakia’s percentage in 1998, falling by a half in 2000. Czech
Repulic’s data accounted for 12% and 15% in 1998 and 2000, respectively.

It can be see that the proportion of Greece comprised to 42% in 1998, while that data fell to 37% in
2000. Additionally, Turkey had the highest rate of self employed workers at around 56%, then that figure
decreased significantly to about 38% in the next 2 years.
