C. Presenting examples/instances Let’s Read and Understand: Integrating Arts (10 minutes) – Literacy
of the new lesson Say: Now let us read the text taken from your Arts lesson about Natural Resources
and Cultural Heritage in the Philippines:
Philippines is famous of natural and cultural heritage attractions. Beauty and
culture can be seen everywhere in the country.
Banaue Rice Terraces are terraces that were carved into the mountains of
Banaue, Ifugao, by the ancestors of Igorot people. It was declared the Eighth Wonder
of the World. Anthropologist Otley Beyer estimated that the terraces are over 2000
years old.
Questions:
Did the Ifugaos use heavy equipment in carving the terraces? What did they use
then?
How do you describe Igorot people? Are we going to laugh at them? Why?

Vigan Spanish Houses in Ilocos Sur are included in the UNESCO World
Heritage List due to the preservation of around 187 residential, institutional,
commercial, and religious structures that transport visitors to the past. Their structural
endurance and relevance to everyday use until this modern day is a testament to the
genius and high-level craftsmanship in the creation of these architectural treasures.
Questions:
Why do you think Vigan Spanish Houses were included in the UNESCO World
Heritage?
Do you think that the buildings were strong to withstand different weathers in our
country? Why did you say so?
The Chocolate Hills are a geological formation in the Bohol province of
the Philippines. There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as many as 1,776 hills
spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometers. They are covered in
green grass that turns brown during the dry season.
Questions:
Why do you think the place is called Chocolate Hills?
Do you think these hills are always brown all throughout the year? Why?

Indeed, God has gifted us a paradise-like place to live. Let us help preserve
both the natural scenic spots and cultural heritage in our country by taking care of
them, such as throwing garbage in the bin and keeping them clean when we visit
them.
Questions:
Why do we need to take care of the natural resources and cultural heritage in our
country?
Questions Leading to the Lesson:
1. Do the pictures and videos help you more in understanding the paragraphs
you are reading?
2. How do pictures and videos help you understand what you read?
D. Discussing new concepts and Let’s Discuss It! (15 minutes)
practicing new skills #1
Visual and Multimedia Elements
Reading is more fun when there are colors, graphics, and designs. It helps the
reader’s understanding by widening their imagination as they read.
The ways to understand a text include these elements:
 Visual Elements – help convert a simple reading text to an adventurous tale where
readers can “see” or “imagine” the story. Examples: pictures, drawings, comics,
cartoons, diagrams
Visual Elements

 A visual element is any aspect of something that we can see. This includes
a number of the following characteristics.

1. A line is a mark made by a brush, pen, or pencil, or the divider between two areas.
In a drawing of a city street, a line would represent the edge of a building, or the
edge of the curb on the street.
2. A gaze is a term that describes how the viewers engage with visual media and
how we look at visual representations.
3. Symbols can show actual objects or they can represent a concept. Visual symbols
move from the concrete object to the abstract idea. There are many different types of
signs and symbols that communicate visual information.
4. Colour is the hue from the visible spectrum an object shows or projects. Example:
For a stop sign, the colour would be red.
5. Framing includes both the literal presentation and/or representation an image or
object in physical space, and the accompanying interpretative markers a viewer both
perceives and generates; and
6. Social distance refers to the distance between the viewer/focalize and subject. It is
measured on a continuum from extremely close, to extremely remote. This is based
on how comfortable we generally feel with people being close to us, in real life
situations.

 Multimedia Elements - help the reader use sight, sound, and sometimes other sense to
experience what they are reading. These include videos, audio recordings and sound
effects, graphics/animation, and interactive word/images.

Visual and Multimedia Elements can help the readers in many ways:
1. Clarifying the Meaning of the Text
2. Communicating Tone of the Story
Visual and multimedia elements reflect the writer’s attitude toward the text. The
writer’s tone give hint of how the writer wants to portray the story: happy sad,
serious, comical, angry.
3. Enhancing Imagery
Writers use narration to effectively describe the scenery of the story.
Imagery is the language used by writers to properly describe a certain scene,
appearance, or things which you can imagine based on the description.
Visual and Multimedia Elements are helpful because it is letting us “see” and
somewhat experience what the author is describing in his/her story.

E. Discussing new concepts and Let’s Practice It (5 minute

practicing new skills #2 Study each given visual media samples and interpret them by answering the
guide questions below:

 What things do you see in this image
 which you recognize from somewhere
else?
 Why did the author chose to use these
symbols?
 What might this mean for what is https://www.dw.com/en/climate-storms-cyclones-hurricanes-typhoons-explained/a-55521226

happening this story?

2. Line

 What information does this line give the
audience about the circumstances of this

 How would meaning change if this lines

F. Developing mastery Let’s Do It! (8 minutes)
(Leads to Formative Assessment 1. Each group will be given a task card/envelope where a caselet is written.
3) 2. Each group will creatively perform the task based on the caselet:
a. Performers: Perform one heavy drama scene in the story “Cinderella”
where she was locked up by her stepmother so that she can’t attend the
party in the castle. After the presentation, explain if that can be
considered a visual or multimedia element when recorded/video-taped.
Justify.

Lion and the Mouse” and write the title. Explain the front cover prepared
and tell if that can be considered a visual or multimedia element. Justify.
3. Each group is given 8 minutes to prepare for the presentation.
G. Finding practical application of Let’s Show It! (2 minutes) - Incorporating Numeracy in Adding up the Scores
concepts and skills in daily living Directions: Each group will showcase their presentation creatively following the
rubrics on oral presentation which will be flashed on screen and will be given to each
group for their guidance. After each presentation, scores will be given based on the
rubrics and the learners will help compute their scores to hone their numeracy skill.
