Gender and Development


Is a perspective on progress that acknowledges the unequal standing and
circumstances of men and women in society. As a method and perspective on
development that is broad, empowering, equitable, sustainable, free of violence,
respecting human rights, encouraging self-determination, and encouraging the
realization of human potential.

Sex is largely unchangeable and it is a biological difference between men and


women and can be determined by reference to genetic and anatomical characteristics
while gender is cultural and social, it can be changed. Gender also refers to subjective
feelings of maleness or femaleness.

An over-generalized belief in the characteristics of persons based simply on


gender called “gender stereotypes” and there are 4 types the physical, psychological,
sexual, and socio-economic stereotypes. and gender can be biased against men by the
thought of that they are inherently aggressive and violent and can’t feel pain or
incapable of experiencing human relations, inherently expressive in their sexuality and
don’t need closeness, reassurance and attention.

Gender issues can be recognize especially women’s different perceptions and


interests arising from their unique social location and gender roles underlying
discrimination based on sex and it calls for an understanding and consideration of the
socio-cultural factors whether against women or men.

Personhood, violence, marginalization , subordination, and multiple burden


gender stereotyping are one of the gender issues & biases affect women more
negative effects and the reason is uneven and unjust gender power relations women
and men are boxed into situations – which constrain their capacity to do and to be.

The implementation of or involvement in volunteer labor, particularly in the


provision of community services. Making significant and long-term commitments and
actively looking for opportunities to help those in need might be helpful. We can learn
more since it is a practice to give of our time and skills for the good of others and
causes rather than for our own financial gain.

The focus of gender equality in volunteering is how gender roles impact people's
willingness to volunteer.Volunteering for gender equality, on the other hand, refers to
how volunteers use their actions to advance gender equality.
Women and men can enjoy all human rights, socially desirable items,
opportunities, and resources on an equal basis. It implies that the various traits, goals,
and requirements of women and men be valued and dealt with equally and that how to
define gender equality. Gender equity is the equitable treatment of women and men in
accordance with their individual requirements. The ideas correct the gender disparity by
acknowledging that men and women have different needs and social power. Strategies
used in program planning, assessment, design, implementation, and M&E to take
gender norms into account and make up for gender-based inequities are known as
gender integration. Women's status is being improved through women's empowerment
in order to increase their autonomy, agency, and capacity for decision-making at all
levels. The process of integrating a gender viewpoint into an organization's policies,
plans, programs, projects, activities, administrative functions, and institutional culture is
known as "gender mainstreaming." Lastly, Men must actively promote gender equality
while expanding their support for the empowerment of women and children. This is
what is meant by constructive men's engagement. In order to foster equitable norms
and relationships, constructive men's engagement efforts should involve men as clients
and beneficiaries, supportive partners of women, and agents of change.

Therefore, In all of your social and personal endeavors, utilize your person to
volunteer for gender equality and sensitivity. You may also take advantage of other
opportunities to advance gender and development.
