Week 7 Writing Homework

Essay 1
We are currently living in a world that are much more
developed compared to the past. Such developments can
be found in the world’s economy, politics and society.
Nevertheless, there are many issues in our world,
especially in the 21st Century, global warming is one of
which. Global warming is threatening not only humans
but also the nature, yet there are still some good
solutions to tackle this problem.
One of the most apparent and life-threatening problems
associated with global warming is the rise in sea level,
which is caused by glaciers’ melting. The higher sea level
means that water is easier to overflow into the streets or
coastal villages near the ocean; therefore, houses are
flooded which leaves people homeless. For instance,
Japan has experienced a massive tsunami in 2011 that
killed more than 10,000 people and leaves behind tons of
wreckage. Another concerning problem that arise from
global warming is the extreme heat waves. A heat wave is
a period of dry and hot weather that lasts very long. They
are made by trapped hot air, which is mainly caused by
global warming. Therefore, heat waves cause roads and
highways to crack and melt and water to evaporate which
results in drought. Some countries in Europe has witness
long-term droughts, such as Germany, Spain and France.
Despite the overwhelming and devastating issues of
global warming, actions can be made to deal with it. A
feasible solution is to build flood barriers. They can be
installed on the side of coastal villages to stop the sea
water from flowing into houses. Another answer to the
problems caused by global warming is to simply plant
more plants. Plants provide the environment with fresh,
clean air that are vital to fight the heat waves. One
example is that in Vietnam, farmers plant in the night to
fight the drought in daytime.
In conclusion, global warming is causing severe problems
that are dangerous for humans’ live. However, with the
right actions, the world can still easily face with this issue.
Essay 2
In the 21st century, the world’s population is rising more
than ever. Consequently, there is more need in food and
water for humans. As a result, there is an increase in the
production of consumer goods, which can cause severe
damage to the environment, yet there are some solutions
to face this issue.
One apparent reason why the production of consumer
goods is harmful to the nature is due to the products’
plastic packages and containers. Companies have to
create a huge amount of packages for the increasing
need of food and these packages take a plentiful amount
of time (about a decade) to naturally decay, so they need
to be burned which result in very large fumes of black
smoke. For example, a bag of Kopiko’s coffee candy has
about 25 piece inside it, each one has its own tiny
package cover, not to mention the big bag that covers
them. Another cause of the going up production of goods
is the ingredient needed to produce them. More
production of food and beverage means that more
animals need to be killed, more clean water need to be
used.
The rise in goods production causes undesired impacts to
the environment, but humans can take actions to prevent
or deal with them. One clear answer is to change the
plastic packages and containers’ to papers or any other
recyclable materials. Once a product is fully used, its
trash can be broken down and made again into a
complete new package. For example, Milo, a company
that produces chocolate milk, use carton container and
also promote saving the environment by switching from
plastic straws to papers. Another solution is to sell the
products in smaller size to reduce the amount of wasted
products. The amount of hunger in big bags of food and
cans of soda are often underestimated, therefore people
often cannot use most of the content in their product,
leading to wasted food.
To conclude, the rise in production of consumer goods is
causes major problems to the nature. Despite that, the
world still have some response to conquer it.
