“The Development Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with Squash


(Cucurbita maxima) Polvoron”

Introduction

Polvoron is a snack made of toasted flour, sugar, powdered milk,


and butter. These serves as a snack or dessert it has a sweet and
buttery flavor. It can easily be customized with different flavors
in your preference. However, polvoron lack on protein content and
the other nutritive values that is highly beneficial for human
consumption.

Tilapia A popular freshwater fish with a mild, slightly sweet


flavor across many regions of the world. When cooked, the white,
lean meat becomes flaky and firm. It is well known that tilapia is
a flexible fish that can be cooked in several methods, including
grilling, baking, and frying. For those who enjoy fish, it is also
a sustainable and reasonably priced option. Due of its widespread
availability in supermarkets and dining establishments, tilapia is
frequently raised in aquaculture systems.

Squash is rich in fiber, and possess a very low value of calories.


It is more than four-fifth made of water. It helps you retain that
sharp vision and is proven to contain nutrients beneficial to
improve your skin.

Purpose, Need or Rationale

This research contributes to the development of innovative food


products that combine traditional ingredients in new and exciting
ways offering consumers a nutritious and delicious alternative for
incorporating fish and vegetables on their diet.

This study aims to develop a functional food product by


incorporating tilapia fish and squash polvoron, combining the
nutritional benefits of fish and squash with the unique taste and
texture of the polvoron.

 To develop a formulation for Tilapia with Squash Polvoron


that is nutritious and appealing to consumers.
 To assess the nutritional content of the developed Polvoron
and compare it with traditional Polvoron.
 A business venture towards the community of Sagay City Farm
School in Brgy. Rizal
 A sustainable livelihood in the community that supports the
local aquaculture specifically tilapia cultivation in the
community by expanding their market.
 A sustainable product development by using local produce
including tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and squash
(Cucurbita maxima)

Project Description

Tilapia fish with Squash Polvoron uses a locally available and


sustainable ingredients in traditional Filipino Delicacies. The
developed Tilapia with Squash Polvoron uses a dehydrator to remove
excess moisture and create a powdered ingredient. The Polvoron
mixture is composed of Tilapia fish and Squash Flour, powdered
milk, sugar, and butter to create polvoron. The Polvoron is
composed of protein with vitamins and other minerals with
nutritive values that can be found in squash and tilapia fish.
