First, we would like to thank our Lecturer, Madam Nur Syaza Syazwany

Binti Syaharuddin, who was a constant source of inspiration and

motivated us to work on this assignment without giving it a second
thought and also, expressed full support to complete this assignment. We
are also thankful to every member of this group because made the
assignment a success. We were always there to lead each other and that
was helped us stay together till the end. We are thankful to all our friends
who extended their moral support, and above all, we are thankful to God
for being with us and giving us the wisdom and ability to do this
assignment.

A thematic map is a form of map that illustrates
the geographic pattern of a specific subject matter
(theme) in a geographic area. Usually, this entails
using a map symbol to represent certain aspects
of a geographic characteristic that are not readily
apparent, suchtemperature, language, or
population. They different from general reference
maps inthisregard because they concentrate on
the location of a wide range of physical elements,
suchas rivers, roads, and buildings. Alternative
names for this class have been proposed, suchas
statistical maps, distribution maps, or special-
subject or special-purpose maps, but theseterms
have mainly lost favour. The discipline of
visualization and thematic mappingareclosely
related.

The area of palm oil cultivation in 2022 in Peninsular Malaysia is as much as 5674742 hectares
which has been calculated in 14 states in Malaysia. Malaysia’s palm oil industry showed a
slightly better performance in 2022 than in 2021 increasing the area of palm oil cultivation.
With the exception of the second quarter of 2022, palm oil production recorded a higher
performance in other quarter compared to the same period in 2021. Malaysia is the world’s
second - largest producerof palm oil after Indonesia.

The Area of palm oil cultivation in 2021 Malaysia is as much as 5737731 hectares, which has
been calculated in 14 states in Malaysia. The lowest palm oil industry in Malaysia is Perlis with
just 760 in total. Thus, the highest and most successful palm oil industry is in Sarawak. As we
know, Indonesia is the world’s largest producer for palm oil but we can beat them because we
have a chance. Malaysia is the second largest producer for palm oil in the world.

As we can see the area of palm oil cultivation for year 2022 is decrease by 62,989 hectares
whichis 5674742 hectares.
Throughout the course of this project, we've honed our skills in cartographic
techniques, mastering the intricate process of crafting thematic maps that convey
complex geographical information in a visually appealing and informative manner.
This newfound expertise equips us to create meaningful and effective maps, not only
for this specific project but also for future endeavors in the realm of contemporary
cartography.

Our project has immersed us in the world of oil palm cultivation, an industry of global
significance. We've delved into the details of where and how oil palm trees are
planted, exploring the geographical intricacies of this vital crop's growth and its
impact on local communities, ecosystems, and the globaleconomy. This
knowledgeextends beyond the boundaries of our project and equips us with a
broader perspective on the environmental, social, and economicdimensions of oil
palm cultivation.
A semi-manual thematic map is a form of map that illustrates

maps, but these terms have mainly lost favour. The discipline of
visualization and thematic mapping are closely related.

These maps are very useful when you want to analyze the spatial
distribution of your information or look for any geographic
patterns and trends contained within your data sets. This map
also help the readers to understand the information that we want
to delivered to them . For this also to know the elements that we
used to build the maps perfectly and know the different about
colour thematic map and symbology thematic map. It can make
us faster and understand how to making things in the map.

In a nutshell, this group project was a valuable learning experience for all of us.
We learned how to work effectively as a team, communicate effectively, and solve
problems creatively. We also learned a lot about the topic of semi-manual
thematic map. We are proud of what we accomplished and we believe that this
project will be beneficial to us in the future. We have used many types of software.
For example, ArcMap, Excel and Adobe Illustrator (AI). In this case, we use ArcMap
for make a legend, scale bar, north arrow, grid and map body. Then, we used Excel
for sorting data that we get from our group research. We have sorting that data
from lowest to the highest. Furthermore, we also have used Adobe Illustrator (AI)
to edit our thematic map to make it more delicate. In this case, we have used AI to
make the conclusion of the map, the title of the map and legend.
Lastly, We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Madam Syaza and Miss
Haslina for their dedication, patience, and encouragement throughout the project.
Their expertise and passion for teaching have inspired us to learn and grow. We
are truly fortunate to have had them as our lecturer.
The extensive distribution of palm oil tree planting
is dynamically captured through digital thematic
maps, web applications, and story maps. A digital
thematic map is created using Geographic
Information System (GIS) software, which allows
for the integration of various data layers to
represent specifies themes such as population
density, land use, climate or any other spatially
related information.

For the web map, these tools provide developers

and organizations with the resources to create and
share interactive maps on the web. These maps
are created using web mapping technologies and
they allow users to explore, interact with and
analyze geographic information through the
internet

The spread of oil palm trees in Malaysia in 2021 and 2022 is depicted on the map. Green dots
stand in for the trees, and the size of the dot represents the plantation's acreage. The oil palm
mill distribution is also depicted on the map, these are indicated by red squares. As can be
seen from the map, oil palm trees are found all over Malaysia, with the southern states of
Johor, Pahang, and Negeri Sembilan having the highest concentration of these plants. From 5.7
million hectares in 2021 to 5.8 million hectares in 2022, more land was planted with oil palms.
In Malaysia, the growth of oil palm farms has generated debate. There are many who contend
that it has resulted in societal issues, environmental deterioration, and deforestation. Some
contend that it has helped rural regions and the nation's economy. It is to control the oil palm
sector; the Malaysian government has introduced a certification program for sustainable palm
oil. Nonetheless, some environmental organizations contend that insufficient steps are being
taken by the government to safeguard the ecosystem from the damaging impacts of oil palm
farming. In Malaysia, the argument over oil palm is probably not going to end. Understanding
the problem and the effects of oil palm agriculture on the nation is made easier with the help
of the map we supplied to map user.
Here are some additional details that we use in the map:
The map includes a legend that explains the symbols used.
The map is dated December 2022.
The map is produced by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
In a nutshell, our story map shows the distribution of oil palm tree plantations in
Malaysia for the years 2021 and 2022. It uses a color-coded scale to
represent the average annual palm oil production in tons per hectare, with
darker greens indicating higher production and lighter greens indicating lower
production. It also uses the oil palm tree symbol to represent the average of a
distribution pf palm oil production in tons per hectare. From the biggest that
represent the most in total average to smallest represent the lowest
production. In Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang has the highest concentration of oil
palm plantations. In East Malaysia and also Malaysia, Sarawak was the state
that has the highest concentration of oil palm plantations. Lastly, there
appears to be a general trend of increasing oil palm production from 2021 to
2022, with many areas showing darker greens in 2022 compared to 2021.
