Module 8 -Writing for

Different S&T Materials
Introduction
The past modules have discussed about generation of scientific information, how to store
and search these information and how to disseminate these scientific information through
various scientific vehicles. All those lessons have been preparing you how to write your
own scientific literature.

Module 8 prepares you to write for different S&T materials.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this module, you should be able to:

1. Explain the kind of science writing appropriate for specific purposes;
2. Apply principles of clear writing in preparing S&T articles;
3. Apply principles of clear writing in preparing policy briefs on S&T for policy makers
and decision makers.

Writing for S&T Materials

Now it’s time for you to face that dreaded task of writing a scientific and technical article.

Learning Activity

For this topic, I want you to read Module 8 - Writing for Different S&T Materials by Ma.
Theresa H. Velasco. Read the module comprehensively and answer the SAQs. Try to take
note of two spheres of science writing: writing about science which means taking science as a
subject and writing in the context of science which refers to the manner of presentation and not
the topical content.

You can also read on some of the notes posted in the course site to help you in your journey
of scientific writing.
You can also review the article in the previous module on How to Read a Scientific Article by
the Rice University.

Try to write down some topics you can work on for your scientific and technical paper.
You can share this in your journal.
