Course Description
Background
In today's rapidly evolving world, the field of biochemistry plays a vital role in unraveling the mysteries of life at
the molecular level. As an interdisciplinary science, biochemistry combines biology, chemistry, and physics to
study the chemical processes and macromolecules that drive the functioning of living organisms. Advanced
Biochemical Methods and Biochemical Reasoning is an undergraduate course designed to provide students
with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required to excel in the field of biochemistry.
The course that affords students the learning of different methods of designing, experimenting/executing, and
reporting/publishing biochemical and biomedical research. The course will also focus on developing student’s
ability to manipulate experimental data, extract the salient points, and derive logical conclusions from scientific
reports. The students will be taught how to prepare samples in biochemical and biomedical analysis, different
laboratory techniques for different analysis, reason about data and drawing conclusions from them.
Course Aim
The purpose of this course is for students to acquire the knowledge of different biochemical techniques for
different biochemical and biomedical analysis as well as biochemical reasoning.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completing this course, you should be able to:
1. How to design, analyse and report research results
2. Knowledge of different biochemical and biomedical techniques

3. Knowledge of interpretation of biochemical data.

Teaching Format
This course will be taught in as physical teaching only. The physical contacts will involve traditional classroom
lectures and field/laboratory practical. Others include Lecture, Recitation, Power Point Presentation, Discussion.
We will maintain a weekly pattern of “Mondays-to-Fridays”.
You may refer to the published general lecture timetable for further details.
