Principle of Design // Balance

- an arrangement of elements, such that a feeling of balance,
equilibrium, stability, and rest exists between them

2. Asymmetrical (formal) balance
- sometimes called occult balance
- achieved when objects of unequal weights or unequal
attractions are placed at the correct distances from the
center as when a large object or an object with a
striking attraction is moved farther out from the center
- active balance, suggests spontaneity and movement,
also gives an impression of casualness

- also called subordination
- some parts easily catch our attention and interest while
other parts are not noticed at all
- may be defined as “giving the proper importance to the
parts or to the whole”
