Ma'am, published in 1958. Langston Hughes was an important and prolific writer during the Harlem Renaissance of the early 20th century. He wrote about African American life and experience. Thank You Ma'am is about what happens when a teenage boy and an older working woman collide on a Harlem street. Listen up! SUMMARY Thank You‚ Ma’am by Langston Hughes is short story about a young boy named Roger who intended on stealing a purse‚ and instead stumbled upon a very strong and passionate woman‚ Luella Bates Washington Jones who showed him how it felt to be trusted and loved. Roger wanted some blue suede shoes‚ apparently wanted them so bad he would steal from an elder woman to get some.
