Materials
One set of cards per group
Customize your worksheet by:
• Replacing the pictures with photos of popular tourist destinations in your own city, region, or country.
• Changing the information about each trip and the questions.
• Including any additional “travel” vocabulary that your students have learned.
Set up (10 minutes)
Give one Paul card to each student. On the board, write Paul went to Bangkok, Thailand, last spring. He was there
for (how long).
Have one student come to the front of the class with their card. Say to the student, “Tell me about Paul’s vacation.”
Have the student say, “Paul went to Bangkok, Thailand. He went there last spring. He was there for five days…”
Stop the student at this point.
Erase the board. Have the student ask you the first two questions on the card. After each question, pretend that
you’re thinking hard for a few seconds, and then answer.
Procedure (20 minutes)
Divide the students into groups of three. Give one set of the other cards to each group. One student in each group
takes a Paul card, one takes a Robert card, and one takes a Yumiko card.
Have the students with the Paul cards tell their partners about Paul’s vacation, making complete sentences with the
facts on the left side of the card.
Then have them ask their partners the questions on the card. Their partners try to become the first to answer the
question correctly. The student with the most correct answers is the winner.
Repeat the procedure, with the students holding the Robert and Yumiko cards telling about their vacations and
asking questions.
Extension (10 minutes)
Have the students repeat the procedure, this time taking turns talking about their own vacations.
