SUMMARY
Biomolecules mainly carbon, which acts in organic compounds as
it always does forming 4 bonds, usually with a tetrahedral
arrangement. The skeleton of carbon can be linear, branched,
cyclic, or aromatic. Many important elements include H, O, N, P.

Biological systems need about 30 elements including iodine and

several metals, although most of these are required in trace
amounts only.
SUMMARY

Biomolecules include the same forms of functional groups as do

organic molecules, including hydroxyl groups, amino groups,
carbonyl groups, carboxyl groups, etc. However, many
biomolecules are polyfunctional, with two or more distinct
functional groups that can affect each other’s reactivity.
