This paper carries 100 marks

a)
An increase in the amount of greenhouse gases produced since the beginning of the
industrialization era has caused the average global temperature on Earth to rise, causing
melting of glaciers and rising sea levels. Human activity has caused environmental
degradation in various forms, an outcome of anthropogenic impact. Outline with proper
explanation FOUR (4) environmental issues faced today by the current generation
could be reduced.

b)
The Engineering Profession in Malaysia is regulated by an Act of Parliament called the
Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (revised in 2007). State the body that was established
to administer the provision of this Act and the requirement for a person to practice
Engineering.

2.
a)
The various forms of industrial development such as the development of SMART
CITIES which was supposed to make Malaysia more “greener” have resulted in
deforestation, soil erosion, species endangering, and a raft of other problems of the
natural environment and ecosystem. As an engineer who is working in the Department
of Environment:
i) Explain with relevant example from your observation 2 of the most obvious
environmental issues noticed in the development of SMART CITIES. [8 marks]
ii) Explain with justification the ‘green’ effect of the SMART CITIES Development.
[12 marks]

b) Define environment sustainability in your own word. [5 marks]

In your current task working in a chemical processing company, you discovered


improper usage and improper disposal of chemical waste. You reported this issue to
your Manager in charge (also an engineer) who says, “I know but it will be OK,
everything is under control”. As a professional engineer it is your responsibility to
report this issue to the authority – however there is a high possibility that you will lose
your job if you do so.
