WHAT IS SMART DUST?

A ny dust size device that can detect and transmit data about their environment

this device is equipped with sensors, computing circuits, wireless communication

capabilities, power sources ,all packed into a very small size.

can detect light, temperature, vibration, magnetism, chemicals and other stimuli.

Size of each smart dust is

0.15 x 0.15 mm

Invented by Hitachi

3
WORKING OF SMART DUST

Smart dust par cles contain sensors to detect various

environmental parameters, such as temperature, humidity, light,
sound, or even chemical substances. These sensors collect data
and process it using onboard compu ng circuits. Once processed,
the data is transmi ed wirelessly to a central receiver or hub for
further analysis and interpretation.

4
APPLICATIONS

Environmental protection(identification and monitoring of pollution).

Habitat monitoring(observing the behavior of the animals in there natural

habitat).
Military applica on (monitoring ac vi es in inaccessible areas, accompany soldiers
and alert them to any poisons or dangerous biological substances in the air).

Factory Automation(To monitor the condi on of equipment).

Health and Wellness Monitoring( enter human bodies and check for physiological
problems).

In Agriculture(monitor when to water the crop and pest control).

5
CHALLENGES

It is difficult to fit all these devices in a small Smart Dust both

size wise and Energy wise.
With devices so small, ba eries present a massive addition
of weight.
High power consumption.
Complicated design and mechanism.

CONCLUSION

There are many ongoing researches on Smart Dust, the main

purpose of these researches is to make Smart Dust mote as
small as possible and to make it available at as low price as
possible. Soon we will see Smart Dust being used in varied
applica on from all spans of life.
