Bearing types for Vasa 32 based engines

Engine types WÄRTSILÄ Vasa 32, 32LN, WÄRTSILÄ 32DF, 32GD, 32LNGD,
12V34SG and 18V34SG.
General Since the introduction of the Vasa 32 engine, several types of bearings and
different materials have been used. When evaluating the condition of the
bearing the type must be known. For bearings guidance values see the
engine instruction manual (chapters 6, 10 and 11) and the Operating
Instruction 3210Q042 Bearing assessment for Vasa 32 based engines.
Instructions In order to enable the identification of bearings used for above mentioned
engines, the identification number is stamped at the side of the bearing
shell. In the table below the corresponding identification number can be
found.
Over/undersize Oversize bearings (+) are used when the housing has been machined.
Undersize bearings (-) are used when the pin/shaft has been machined.
For thrust bearings the designation has varied during the years but in
practice (+) and (-) both mean that the bearing is thicker and can be used
whenever the block and/or shaft has been machined.
Note! Pairing of different shells (type or manufacturer) in one bearing is only
allowed for the main, flywheel and thrust bearings.
Remarks Following remarks have been used in the tables below:
“obsolete”, for parts that are of older design and are not recommended
to be used any more
“not allowed to use”, for parts that, if used, may cause breakdown of the
engine and risk for personal injury
