TYPICAL WÄRTSILÄ FOUNDATIONS FOR SOIL INVESTIGATION ONLY !

Wärtsilä uses standardized foundation solutions for its generating sets, buildings and exterior structures. Foundations are
mat slab type bases with relatively low bearing stresses suitable for wide range of soil conditions. The top of foundations
is in level with the floor slab.

Gen-set foundations

Genset / Solution Concrete block Concrete block Max static bearing stress
foundation Length x width (m) depth (m) under foundation
W20 Container
W20 EG-Set / Skid

W32/34SG EG-set 7,30 – 11,90 x 3,50 – 4,10 0,60 55 kN/m²

W46 / 50DF EG-set 15,00 – 20,90 x 4,00 – 4,80 1,20 93 kN/m²

Allowable long term settlement difference between the gen-set and surrounding floor/ power house is 5 mm.
Gen-sets are flexibly mounted. Dynamic forces (vibrations) transmitted to the foundation are minimal.

Power house building, Engine hall

- Reinforced beam/slab foundation to spread the stresses

- Typical dims:

V M
H
slab 250 mm
750 mm

600 mm

- Bearing stress under the foundation

- -short term max. 90 KN/m²
- -long term 40 KN/m²

Tank foundations
- Foundation for large tanks: concrete ringbeam and earth base
- Foundation for small tanks: concrete slab
- Height of the tanks (as well as bearing stresses) is variable and depends on soil and site conditions, typical
bearing stress for large tanks is approx. 80…150 KN/m²
-Allowable total settlement for the ringwall approx. 200 mm
