Using a bubble map to brainstorm different types of business letters that students may need to

write in the future. Examples include: cover letter, complaint letter, request letter, thank-you

letter, letter of recommendation, follow-up letter, resignation letter, college admission letter.

Explore: The class will be given a sample letter and instructed to label the basic parts. (Sender’s

address, date, inside address, salutation, body, and closing) and the

format/tone (margins, block format, professional tone) of a business letter. Point out

the different parts of the body paragraphs: Introduction: Introduce yourself and

state why you are writing. Body: Expand on why you are writing with background
information and supporting details. Conclusion: Restate the purpose of your letter,

thank the person to whom you are writing, and offer to answer any questions. A

class discussion will ensue to clear up any confusion and to solidify the new

information.

Explain: Students will be instructed to pay keen attention to the whiteboard where notes will

be placed on the content of the topic, they will be told to copy the notes from the board to

their notebooks.

Elaborate: An audio/video clip will be played depicting a situation where a group of

individuals had to write a business letter to send to an organization. Students will need to

direct their undivided attention to the video and audio clip as they will be tested on the

scenario. This will also make way for a class discussion.

Evaluate 1: The teacher will pass out blank papers for the students to

follow the scenario shown before in writing their own formal letter (A
