Adjustment Instructions

Waste Saver
from WM no. 5044 onwards

Function

The waste saver keeps up to six weft threads


stretched until their next insertion, thus dispensing
with the left-hand auxiliary selvedge.
When the colour changes, the relevant clamp goes
into working position and the weft thread is drawn
negatively out of the clamp by the rapier.
The clamp is then opened by the opener slide and
the weft thread fed into the clamp with the reed mo-
tion. As soon as the clamp closes, the weft thread is
cut.

The clamping pressure can be suited to various weft


yarns with two springs.

The clamps are blown out when they are open and
lubricated as needed with a "Transyl".

Dismantling the waste saver

Moving machine parts!


Risk of getting hands crushed
– Lock emergency stop button.
– Place the "Machine stopped" notice in
a prominent position on this machine.

Note: On machines with tucking unit, remove the


tucking unit at machine angle 50°.

Pull off tubes 8.

Adjusting the clamping pressure

The clamping pressure is controlled by springs 21,
either weak (yellow), medium (silver) or strong
21 (black). It can differ for the upper and lower three
clamps for inserting different yarns.

To change a spring, first remove the appropriate


circlip 22.

Note: When threading clamping feet 23 on guide


rod 19, the beveled side must be on the weft

supply side during weaving.

Adjusting the clamp travel

Insert guide rod 19 into clamping piece 24 and tight-

Feed the weft yarn to be woven into the clamps.

Push setting gauge 25 into the bearing bush.

18 The position of "Colour 6" is correct when the adjust-


ing mandrel is exactly between "Clamping feet 7 and
6". If this is not the case, slacken set screw 18.
Centre "Clamping feet 6 and 7" to adjusting mandrel
with the aid of guide rod 19.

Position clamps 3 parallel to thread guide 27 and
17 tighten set screw 18.

Before selecting a new colour, pull setting gauge 25


out of range of the clamps.

Select "Colours 1...5" at the terminal and centre them
one after the other to the adjusting mandrel with the

appropriate potentiometer.

Secure thread guide 27 with screws 40.

Note : Position multiple nozzle so that the individual


openings are aligned to the middle of tthe appropria-
te clamping foot.

Removing and fitting the cutter

On machines with tucking unit, slacken screw 14


and remove blowing tube.

On machines without tucking unit, undo screws 14


and remove auxiliary clamp 15.

Push opener slide 2 into bearing bush 26. If it is not
centred to the selected pair of feet, it must be
realigned.

For the basic setting on machines with tucking unit,
position cutter 17 at a distance of 3 mm from guide
bracket 28 and fix with set screw 16.

Mount the blowing tube to the guide bracket with

On machines without tucking unit, fasten auxiliary

clamp. If necessary, adjust the height of thread gui-
de 27.

Remove reed and double auxiliary tooth.

Detach tape guide and run out of the working area.

Synchronize colour control with setting gauge


624 634 000, detach and remove from the working
area (see chapter 544).

Temporarily remove tucking unit (see chapter 711).

Fit a suitable reed for the new weaving width into the
sley.

Move colour control until the clearance between weft


end gripper 29 and the reed is 1 mm.

1 mm Fix the colour control, remove gauge 624 634 000


(see chapter 544).

Remove the tucking unit (see chapter 711).

Align double auxiliary tooth 31 with spacers to the
required tucked selvedge:
0.5 mm

15 mm = tucked selvedge 12…15 mm

18 mm = tucked selvedge 15…18 mm

Clamp the double auxiliary tooth in the sley at a


distance of 8 mm from the reed. Make sure that the
first tooth is 2.5 mm and the second 0.5 mm from the
15/18 mm reed.

such a way that the rivet in the middle clamping foot
just reaches the auxiliary tooth.

The clearances – auxiliary tooth – clamps, cutter –
auxiliary tooth – weft end gripper – reed, must be
evenly distributed (approx.1 mm each).

Unlock the opener slide. To do this, pull driving bolt
33 slightly in the direction of the weaver's stand and
release.

Connect opener slide 2 with clamp 20.

Slacken screw 34.

Push opener slide towards guide rod 19, then with-
20 draw it approx. 0.1...0.2 mm.

Tighten screws 5, 4 and 34 one after the other,
making sure that spring 35 is not bent.

Check

Return opener slide to its locked position.
Push guide rod 19 downwards by hand until error
message (E 068) appears on the terminal.

Move guide rod 19 vertically by hand once more and


make sure that the clamping feet run absolutely
smoothly.

Acknowledge error message with Enter key.

Screw in stud bolt 7 until connecting rod 6 is sitting

Tighten screw 36.

Tighten lock nut 30.

Fit tubes 8.

Position the tape guide at a distance of 2…3 mm


from the thread guide and tighten (see page 11).

Fitting the tucking unit

Machine position 310°

Fit the tucking unit as described in chapter 711,


however holding it straight, as otherwise it will collide
with the waste saver.

Check the cutter timing (see page 15).

Note: Always change the weaving width with the


waste saver mounted.

Detach tape guides and move them out of the work-
ing area.

Synchronize the colour control with gauge


624 634 000, detach it and move it out of the working
area (see chapter 544).

Fit a suitable reed for the new weaving width into the
sley.

Move the colour control until the clearance between


auxiliary clamp 15 and the reed is 1 mm.

Fix colour control, remove gauge 624 634 000 (see
chapter 544).

Machine position 320°

Clamp auxiliary tooth 39 in the sley exactly between


thread guide and clamps. The auxiliary tooth must
be at a distance of 0.5 mm from the reed.

Position the left-hand tape guide 2…3 mm from the
2…3 mm thread guide and tighten.

Fitting the waste saver to weaving machines
without a tucking unit

Machine position 310°

Unscrew the waste saver from the adjusting holder


and secure to the colour selector housing with fitting
bolts 9 (see page 8).

Machine position 0°

Slacken set screws 32 and position waste saver in


such a way that the rivet in the middle clamping foot
just reaches the auxiliary tooth (see page 8).

The thread guide - auxiliary tooth - clamps, auxiliary


clamp - reed must be evenly spaced (approx. 1 mm
apart).

Machine position 310°

Unlock the opener slide. To do this, pull driving bolt


33 slightly towards the weaver's stand and release.

Connect opener slide 2 with clamp 20.

Move opener slide towards guide rod 19 and then
19 withdraw it approx. 0.1...0.2 mm.

Tighten screws 5, 4 and 34 one after the other,


making sure that spring 35 is not bent.

Return opener slide to its locked position.
Push guide rod 19 downwards by hand until error
message (E 068) appears on the terminal.

Move guide rod 19 vertically by hand once more and


make sure that the clamping feet run absolutely
smoothly.

Adjusting the locking mechanism of the

Slacken screw 41 and disconnect connector 42 from

Check:
– At 13° the pawl slide must jump up by spring
pressure.
– when it is locked at 310° there must be a play of 0.3
mm between opener slide and clamps.

Screw lifting magnet 44 right in, then unscrew it until

Adjusting the cutter timing

Thread the weft threads coming from the weft fingers
under the thread retaining hook into the thread guide
and lay in the thread clamping roll.

Turn the weaving machine by hand, keeping an eye
on the cutter:
The cut must take place between 5° and 15°. If this
is not the case, slacken screw 38 and turn clamping
lever 37 as needed.
Set a play of 0.2 mm and tighten screw 38.

Check cutter timing once more.

Clamp travel on the weaving machine

Check:
When inserting "Colours 3 and 4", the stretched weft
thread must be in horizontal alignment with the thread
guide, clamps, cutter and auxiliary clamp as well as
the weft end gripper. Use a mirror to check.

27 Action:
Slacken thread guide 27 and adjust the height.

If this remedial action is not successful, the clamp


travel must be readjusted with the aid of the potentio-
meter (see page 4).

Note: If you are having problems with the yarn, set


the yarn guide slightly lower, so that the upper
edge of the thread guide is touching the weft
yarn.
