J.R.D. TATA

JRD Tata was born on July 29, 1904 in Paris. His mother was a
French, while his father was Parsi. JRD's full name was Jehangir
Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and he was popularly known as Jeh to
his friends. JRD's father Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and Sri Jamsetji
Tata shared their greatness from the same great-great-
grandfather, Ervad Jamsheed Tata, a priest of Navsari.
Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was a pioneer aviator and
important businessman of India.He had the pleasure of being
India’s first pilot. Tata was also the Chairman of Tata & Sons for
50 years. He launched the Indian International as India’s first
international airline. He received the Bharat Ratna in the year
1992. In 1922, Tata came back to India to join the privately-run
company. He acquired the vast majority of his granddad
Jamshedji’s modern realm however first turned into a pioneer
in aeronautics.

After his dad’s passing in 1926, Tata turned into the executive
of the Board of Tata Sons Ltd. Eventually, in 1938, he became
the chairman of the company. Under his authority, Tata Sons
ventured into one of the biggest modern domain in the nation
from ironworks and steelworks into synthetic substances,
lodgings, designing and bunches of other Industries.

JRD was the trustee of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust from its beginning
in 1932, which stayed under the care of him for over a large
portion of a century. Under his guidance, this Trust established
Asia’s first cancer hospital, the Tata Memorial Center for
Cancer, Research and Treatment, Bombay (now Mumbai) in
1941.
It also founded the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, 1936 (TISS),
the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, 1945 (TIFR), and
the National Center for Performing Arts.

JRD Tata was the first Indian pilot to qualify for a British private
license. He founded the Tata Airlines in 1932 and by 1953, it
developed and came to be known as the Indian Airlines. Till
1978, Tata was the Chairman of the Indian Airlines and Air
India.

JRD Tata received several awards. He got the Padma Vibhushan


in 1957 on the eve of the silver celebration of Air India. He
likewise got the Guggenheim Medal for flying in 1988.
In 1992, as a result of his caring helpful undertakings, JRD Tata
was granted India’s most astounding non-military personnel
respect, the Bharat Ratnaone of the rarest occasions wherein
this honor was allowed during a person’s lifetime.

Milestone Achievements of J.R.D. TATA

Tata received a number of awards, including the Padma


Vibhushan (1957), the Daniel Guggenheim Medal for aviation
(1988), and the United Nations Population Award (1992). In
1992 he received India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat
Ratna.

In 1983, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor. He was


the proud recipient of several international awards for aviation
including The Tony Jannus Award (1979) and Edward Warner
Award of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, Canada
(1986).

J.R.D.Tata served as the Chairman of the Tata Group for over a


period of 50 years making it India’s best known global brand.
More than being just a successful business, the group played a
very active role in making the Indian society better.

And on 29 November in Geneva, Switzerland he Died at the Age


of 89 Due to Kidney Infection.
