Read the text below and answer questions 17 to 24.

In general, Bako National Park was well-kept and the trails were very laid-
out and signposted. Unfortunately, on our first walk in the morning, following
the Teluk Paku trail, the park was extremely busy and crowded, so there was
no chance of seeing animals on the walk. The hike ended at the beautiful Paku
beach. We swam and had our picnic there. The walk back to the hostel in the
afternoon was much quieter and we saw many proboscis monkeys, the big
nosed, pot bellied comedian of the rainforest, in the mangroves. The other hike
that we did on the next day was the Teluk Delima trail, which was scarcely
travelled by people. It ended in the mangroves where we saw lots of mud-
skippers. We enjoyed the quiet moments spent there.
We stayed one night in the park. The hostel was basic, but equipped with
all you needed. Ours was a twin sharing room where there was a fan, a writing
desk and two single beds. The beds were adequate to sleep in and the toilet
was clean. There was a huge beach by the hostel where we relaxed and
enjoyed the lovely sunset in the evening.

HOME SWEET HOME

Most of us have a place we call home. A home is defined as a living space where an

individual, a family or several families reside regardless whether it is permanent or

temporary. Normally the place is referred to as a residence or a house. The term homeless

is used to describe those who do not have access to such a place.

A house that functions as a home can be different from one person to another. They can

range from small, simple dwellings to large structures of wood, brick or concrete. During the

stone age, people lived in caves but these living arrangements gradually evolved over time

and development. Various changes have taller places in shapes, designs and materials in

the building of a house. The climate of a country and the wealth of a person also influence

the choice of a house.

There are a few other words that can replace the word house. People know that a palace

is where the royals usually live and some affluent people stay in large and impressive

buildings called mansions. In the past, nobles built castles which had thick stone walls,

towers and moats as protection against attacks by enemies. Some of these castles have

become tourists attractions in Europe. In colder regions of the world, some Eskimos built

igloos out of ice blocks.

Nowadays, many people especially those staying in cities, live in high-rise buildings

called flats and apartments. There are still bungalows and double storey houses built in

small towns and suburban areas but they are rather expensive. Terrace and semi-detached

houses are a more common sight in residential areas.

No matter where you live, comfort and happiness are important factors for a home.

Technologies have made it possible for a house to be furnished with the latest modern

equipment to make it comfortable. However, how do you define happiness? Only the

residents know whether their house can be identified as homes, after all ‘Home is where the

heart is!’.

There are about six billion people living on this planet. Some are fortunate enough to have a

warm meal, hot bath and comfy bed to go to everyday. But, there are also some are not so

fortunate, have to sleep on the floor and go to bed hungry. 35.

Many Malaysians do not realise how fortunate they are. To be able to enjoy cooked food on

their tables and often overeat or waste food they cannot finish. They are often spoilt for choice and

have no second thoughts of not finishing the food on their plates when they are full. 36.

are suffering from extreme poverty. The situation is very dire for the people. 37.
