CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING

Do you remember the best class you ever had?

The best class I ever had was during my elementary days. I was once shy and lacked confidence
until I reached grade five. My cousins always told me that this particular teacher was very strict
and had a habit of assigning reports, which I found intimidating because I lacked the confidence
to speak in front of the class .However, when I had her as my adviser, I had no choice but to face
my fear. During several reporting instances, I would be shaking uncontrollably – my hands, feet,
and knees all trembling. Yet, through these experiences, I gradually gained the confidence to
speak up and even volunteered for reports. This teacher became a significant influence in my life
and is one of the reasons why I aspire to become a teacher.
The class in which you were most confident?
The class in which I was most confident was during my grade 6. By this time, I had already
developed a considerable amount of confidence, particularly in the context of reporting. The
experiences I had in my earlier grades, where I faced my fear of public speaking with the
guidance of my inspiring teacher, greatly contributed to my growing self-assurance. During
grade 6, speaking in front of the class became much easier for me. I noticed a significant shift in
my ability to articulate ideas and communicate effectively. The fear that once made my hands
shake and knees tremble had transformed into a newfound ease in expressing myself. Not only
did I become more confident in addressing the class, but I also observed a positive impact on my
overall self-confidence.
In which you learned the best? More than likely, this was a class in which you discovered
new knowledge and felt motivated to learn both by the instructor and by an intrinsic desire
to know more.
The class where I learned the most was also in grade 6. It was a time when I not only gained
confidence in speaking up but also got really excited about learning. The teacher made lessons
interesting, and I felt motivated to explore more. The positive and encouraging atmosphere in the
class made me curious and eager to understand different subjects. Plus, I personally wanted to
know more, and that made the class even more special. Grade 6 became a memorable time when
teaching, support, and my own interest came together, making learning enjoyable and
meaningful.
