Essay: Following fashion trends is a waste of time and money?

The impact of fashion on young people.

Nowadays, the problem of fashion causes great argument and controversy.
Some people believe that it is important to follow fashion trends and they are ready to
spend a lot of money to look nice and chic while others think that it is a wasting of time
and money and they are not ready to spend last money to make fashionable hairstyle and
cool manicure. Who is right?
As for me, I believe that if a person follows some modern trends they lose several
valuable things in life. To begin with, it consumes a lot of time, energy and money. For
example, one pays a large amount of money to buy clothes which sometimes does not suit
her/him. Such people go to different beauty salons and read a lot of fashion
magazines. They are ready to spend last money to keep yourself looking fashionably nice,
to purchase good perfume and clothes which cost a fortunate nowadays. Not to mention
the fact that they go out of fashion very quickly as it is a never-ending process. What is
more, people who are addicted to following the trends create an image about themselves
which does not reflect their character because they do not make their own decisions on what
to wear. It is argued that fashionistas tend to lose their individuality.
However, there exists another point of view on this issue. Many companies all
around the world produce nice stuff. We see all these nice clothes and shoes and we want
to buy them. I mean, fashion helps people to decide how to dress. It can provide them some
useful advice about what to wear in order to create a good impression. For instance, on the
Web or on TV you can see many young women who wear all these brand new things. They
look so fashionable and fantastic. They spend thousand of dollars every month to follow
fashion. And they look so much happy and satisfied. Besides, dressing fashionably
increases self-confidence because it causes to be trendier and to receive nice comments. It is
generally believed that the ones who wear fashionable clothes tend to feel more confident
and self-assured.
Nevertheless, I cannot agree with this opinion, because the best thing is to find
your own style and to follow it. Of course, you can buy some fashionable things
sometimes if it’s going to make you happy.
Taking into consideration all mentioned above, I would like to say that fashion
changes very fast and sometimes we are not able to follow it. As far as I am concerned,
each person should be able to decide if one wants to follow a trend or not. One should
invest their energy into something more interesting and productive.
