Our Love Story

My spouse and I met at the PUBG game (players unknown Battlegrounds) in March

2019. We met through our mutual friend, Ronak Brahmbhat, with the PUBG username

Villan0609. We both loved the game so much because it was trending at the time, so we

connected immediately. We thought that we needed to share more of these games together, so we

exchanged our Instagram handles the same day. However, a few days later, we decided to

exchange our contacts because we did not use Instagram a lot, yet I was in Canada and he was in

Anand. We then continued keeping in touch by communicating through messages, WhatsApp

video calls Google duo and Facetime. We are both conversant with English and Gujarati, so they

were our primary languages of communication. We really became good friends because we

would talk about anything and everything for extended hours every day.

Within the course of time, we developed feelings for each other, and one day when we

were on a video call, he proposed to me to be his girlfriend. I said yes without a second thought

because I felt that he was a good person with a kind, and loving heart based on the encounters

that we had shared ever since we started talking. I also said yes because we come from the same

city of Anand, India, thus I believed we would have plenty of things in common, which would in

turn make it easier to build our relationship.

In the month of August, 2019 I travelled back home in Anand to visit my family. During

this period, we spent a lot of time together, doing a lot of fun activities such as visiting different

places in Anand. We made so many great memories together, thus strengthening our bond even

more. In one of our adventures, he proposed to me and asked me to marry him because we had

become so fond of each other, and his family already knew about the relationship. However, I

declined his proposal because my family was not aware of this relationship, and I was worried
about what my family would say about his family. He is not from a well off family, and I was not

sure if my parents would agree to officiate our wedding.

In September, 2019, I went back to Canada, and at this time our relationship was really

put to trial because of our differences in social hierarchy. At some point, we felt like we needed

to break up because the challenges were weighing us down. However, we always remembered

the memories we shared back in Anand, and they kept us going every day. We maintained

contact by communicating and reminiscing these memories every day to make sure that we did

not drift apart. I even booked a ticket to go back home and visit him in March, 2020, but it was

cancelled due to the lockdown implemented to manage the Coronavirus pandemic. The

uncertainties brought about by the pandemic made it difficult to manage a long distance

relationship because we did not know when we would see each other again, but we held on to the

love we shared.

Despite these challenges, he remained very consistent and intentional about the

relationship, and he used to send me gifts on my birthdays. In 2019, he sent me a painting of a

photo we had taken back in Anand. In 2020, he got a tattoo of my name on his chest, which

made me literally cry with happiness on the video call. He expressed that he would have sent me

a gift, but there was a lockdown. He was so worried that I might get the Covid-19 infection, but I

assured him that I was taking the necessary precautions. I fell in love with him even more due to

his love and concern for me and I couldn’t wait to see him in person again.

Fortunately, the travel restrictions were lifted in 2021 and I was able to book a ticket

home in September. The two years we had been together made me realize that he is the one I

wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Although he comes from a poor family, he tries his best

to keep me happy, and that is the kind of man I need in my life. I found the courage to talk to my
family about the relationship, and after experiencing the love he has for e, they allowed us to get

married. In October 8, 2021, I got married to the love of my life.
