November 7, 2011

Dear Parent/Guardian: The month of November is upon us and with it many clubs and activities are involved in numerous acts of kindness. The Student Council is recognizing Veterans and Military personnel and their families for the sacrifices they have made or are presently making for us to live in a free country. The goal is to collect 1, 111 (11/11) can goods non-perishable items to be donated to the local food pantry in their honor. October ended with the school celebrating Red Ribbon week. Students and staff participated in a number of activities around the theme of drug prevention awareness. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Murphy and Mr. Oliver for their hard work in coordinating school-wide participation. My thanks also to the many students, parents and staff who participated in Bog Fright Night. The weather was cooperative and all participants seemed to enjoy Frightening us as we rode through the bogs. The Thriller Performance was a new addition and a popular stop. Special thanks to advisors Mrs. Lasorsa, and Mrs. Brogioli, Student Council and Mrs. Frazier, Honor Society for coordinating the middle schools participation. Our Honor Society members are in the process of raising money for the American Cancer Society. Each homeroom has received a standard water bottle to be filled with dimes (full bottle equals $100). Last week one of our eighth grade students lost his apartment due to a fire. The family has moved in with relatives but has lost all of their possessions and is in need. Please keep them in your thoughts. Today 132 seventh graders left for a week at Natures Classroom. The weather for the week looks to be favorable for their week of outdoor activities. The first trimester ends on December 2 and report cards will be issued on Friday, December 9. Late buses are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so that your child may receive extra help from their teacher or to participate in a co-curricular activity.

On Wednesday, November 23, our 3rd Annual PTA Pig Race will be held in the gymnasium. The race is the culminating activity of the PTA Fall Fundraiser and acknowledges homeroom sales and individual student best sellers. During this month of Thanksgiving, I would like to thank the staff of the middle school for their dedication and commitment to providing your daughter/son the best educational experience possible. Attached is a message from our School Board Chairman, Mr. Geoffrey Swett. Best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sincerely,

Howard Gilmore
