Providers of Moral Behaviors in a
Culture
• The Family.
- plays a very important role in the
development of personality and values
formation of children.
- It regulates the sexual behaviors of every
member of the family.
- Children are taught to follow and observe
the family’s norms, values, beliefs, and
behavior that are appropriate to members
of society.
- maintains order and harmony. Without it,
everything is in disarray.
• The School.
- helps preserve, perpetuate, modify
and integrate the conditions of human
life by promoting teachings and
learnings.
- it does not only teach basic skills, it
also changes and modifies negative
attitude and values in the individuals
so that he would become a happy,
integrated, well-disciplined and
morally right member of society.
• The Church.
- promotes interaction among its
members in order to foster unity and
group solidarity.
-able to understand the meaning of
existence.
- helps individuals acquire self-
confidence, moral and identity that
would influence his goals, values, and
convictions.
• The Government.
- it exist for the benefit of the people.
-Promotes economic and socio-cultural well-being of the people.
- administer justice, fairness
- promotes progress and development; security and protection
- defines and punishes individuals for crimes committed.
- also supports cultural transformation for the people to attain quality of life.
• The Workplace.
- have important roles in the conduct of employees and workers
• For example, instead of
thinking, “Fried crickets
are disgusting! ” one
should instead ask, “Why
do some cultures eat fried
insects?”. You may learn
that fried crickets or
grasshoppers are full of
protein and in Mexico, it is
famous Oaxaca regional
cuisine and have been
eaten for thousands of
years as a healthy food
source!
In some cultures, practices such as
arranged marriages are considered
normal and even desirable. Cultural
relativism would suggest that instead
of imposing Western notions of
individual choice and romantic love,
one should understand and respect
the cultural significance of arranged
marriages within that specific
context.
• Clothing choices can be
highly culture-specific. In
some societies, women
may wear headscarves or
veils as a cultural or
religious practice. Cultural
relativism would involve
understanding and
accepting these choices
without imposing
external standards of
dress.
Recall a personal
experience in dealing with a
problem and analyze how
problems are rooted in
Filipino qualities. In
hindsight, recommend how
you could have done things
differently.
