B. Establishing Objectives
purpose of the 1. Identify the six trigonometric ratios.
lesson 2. Analyze the six trigonometric ratios.
3. Illustrate the six trigonometric ratios.
C. Motivation Game Activity: Right Triangle Rumble: Pass, Pick, and Prove!

Instructions:
1. The teacher will give a ball and then the student we'll be passing a ball to
their classmates while some fun music plays.
2. When the music stops abruptly, the student holding the ball will be our
lucky contestant!
3. The student will pick a question at random from this bag (or hat, bowl, etc.).
It will be one of six trigonometric ratio questions related to a right triangle.
4. Answer the question using the appropriate trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine,
tangent, cotangent, secant, or cosecant) and explain your reasoning.
5. Everyone clap for our awesome participants!
6. We'll pass the ball again and continue until everyone has had a chance to
participate (or a set time limit is reached).
D. Discussing new In a right triangle, we can define actually the six trigonometric ratios. Consider the
concepts and right triangle ABC below. In this triangle we let θ represent ¿ B. Then the leg
practicing new denoted by a is the side adjacent to θ , and the leg denoted by b is the side opposite
skills #1 to θ .
A

We will use the convention that angles are symbolized by capital letters, while the
side opposite each angle will carry the same letter symbol, in lowercase.
SOH-CAH-TOA is a mnemonic used for remembering the equation.

In the given figure, find the values of the six trigonometric ratios of θ .
Solution:
We first solve for the hypotenuse, h, using the Pythagorean Theorem. We have

h =( 2 ) + ( 3 ) =4 +9=13
h=√ 13

G. Finding practical Trigonometry isn't just about solving problems on a worksheet! The six trigonometric
applications of ratios (sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant) have many practical
concepts and skills in applications in various fields. Here are some real-world examples:
daily living
Construction:
Finding Roof Pitch: Trigonometry helps determine the angle of a roof based on its
desired slope and height. This ensures proper water drainage and structural integrity.
Calculating Measurements: Trigonometry allows workers to calculate heights,
distances, and angles across large areas without directly measuring everything. This
is useful for laying foundations, installing electrical lines, or positioning architectural
features.
Navigation:

Ship Navigation: Trigonometry is used to determine a ship's position using

landmarks and celestial bodies (like the sun and stars). Sailors use concepts like sine
and cosine to calculate distances and angles.
H. Making How can you illustrate the six trigonometric ratios?
generalizations and Right Triangle: This is the most common way. We draw a right triangle and label its
abstractions about sides as opposite (side facing the desired angle), adjacent (side next to the desired
the lesson angle), and hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle).
