SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Grade 7 Mathematics
January 29, 2024

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the students should be able to:

1. define mean, median, and mode of ungrouped data;

2. find the mean, median, and mode of a given ungrouped data; and
3. apply speed and accuracy in solving a given problem.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Mean, Median, and Mode of Ungrouped Data
Reference: Learner’s Material for Grade 7, Pages: 505-511
Materials: Laptop, Projector/TV, Slide Decks
Time Allotted: 1 Hour
Values integration: Cooperation, Speed and Accuracy

III. MODIFICATION AND ACCOMODATION

1. Modification of the content of the curriculum "content knowledge" for Grade VII.
2. Using realistic example in explaining the concepts.
3. Using "explicit instruction" in teaching so that students can understand the lesson more
easily.
4. Using Integrative Approach through Discussion Strategy.
5. Using Cooperative Learning Approach.

IV. PROCEDURES:

A. PREPARATION:
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of attendance
4. Classroom rules and reminders:
5. Review
6. Motivation:
“Guess My Age Challenge”
❖ With a range of 26 to 35, the students will guess the teacher's age.

❖ The teacher will reveal his age that has been most widely assumed.

B. PRESENTATION:

1. ACTIVITY

The learners will watch a short video entitled “Mean Median and Mode Song”. The
learners will be asked to take down important terms and ideas from the video.

2. ANALYSIS:

a. What are the three important terms that are mentioned in the video?
b. Based on the video, how can we define mean? median? mode?
c. Based on the definition of mean, median, and mode on the video, try to answer
the following problems:
● If your grades in Math in four grading periods are as follows, what is your
average grade in Math?
85, 91, 94, 94
● If your scores in the five written works are as follows, what is the middle
score?
15, 12, 20, 13, 14

3. DISCUSSION:

A. The three measures of central tendency are as follows:

Mean

 The mean or arithmetic average is the most widely used measure of central
tendency. It is calculated by adding a series of scores, and then dividing this
sum by the number of scores.

▪ x=
∑ of all scores
number of scores
Median
▪ The median is a counting average. It is determined by arranging the scores in
order and counting to the midpoint of the set of scores.
▪ If the number of scores is odd, the median is the middle score. If the number of
scores is even, the median will be halfway between the middlemost scores.
Mode
▪ The mode is simply the most frequent in the set and is determined by
inspection.
▪ A set of scores with two modes is called bimodal and if there are three modes, it
is trimodal.
▪ If the given set has no frequent score, then there is no mode.

B. Examples in getting the mean, median and mode.

● Top 5 revolutionary heroes who died way too young are Gregorio Del
Pilar, Antonio Luna, Andres Bonifacio, Graciano L. Jaena and Jose Rizal
with ages 24, 32, 33, 33, 35 respectively. Find the mean of their ages.

● Find the median of the set of data: 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13.

● The number of teachers in each learning area in CVSU are as follows: 35,
38, 47, 44, 46, 47, 41, 45. Find the mode of the given set of data.
⮚ By inspection, the most frequent score in the set of data is 47.
Therefore, the mode is 47.
● If your grades in Math in four grading periods are as follows, what is your
average grade in Math? 85, 91, 94, 94
⮚ 85+91+94+94 = 364/4 = 91

● If your scores in the five written works are as follows, what is the middle
score? 15, 12, 20, 13, 14
⮚ 12, 13, 14, 15, 20

⮚ 14 is the middle score, therefore, the median is 14.

4. GENERALIZATION

A. What is mean, median, and mode and how to find each of it?
1. Mean – “arithmetic average”
▪ It is calculated by adding a series of scores, and then dividing this sum by the
number of scores.
2. Median – “midpoint” or the middle score.
● If the number of scores is odd, the median is the middle score. If the number of
scores is even, the median will be halfway between the middlemost scores.
3. Mode – “most frequent score”
Three types of mode:
● Bimodal

● Trimodal

● no mode

5. APPLICATION:

A. The class will be divided into 5 groups and each group will answer the following
problems:

1. The average speed of a car in five consecutive travels are as follows, find the
mean, median, and mode: 16, 18, 18, 22, 26.

2. The table below shows the top 5 Regions with the greatest number of Indigenous
People. Find the median number population based on the data provided.

3. The table below shows five elements and their corresponding atomic numbers.
Find the mean atomic number based on the data provided.
V. EVALUATION:
A. Directions: Answer the following. Write your answer in the space provided.
________________ 1. It is known as the midpoint of the set of scores.
________________ 2. It is the most frequent in a set of scores.
________________ 3. What is the mean of the set of scores: 3, 6, 8, 3, 5.
________________ 4. What is the median of the set of scores: 3, 6, 8, 3, 5.
________________ 5. What is the mode of the set of scores: 3, 6, 8, 3, 5.

VI. ASSIGNMENT:

Directions: Ask the age of all your family members present in your home and find the
mean, median, and mode if possible. Write your output in a ¼ sheet of paper. (Highest
score: 9 points)

Rubric for grading:

⮚ 1 point if the data is provided only but no values for mean, median and
mode.
⮚ 2 points each if the calculated mean, median and mode are incorrect.

⮚ 3 points for each correct value of the mean, median and mode.

NOTE: If your family members is not at home, you can ask either of your friends or your
classmates about their age and find the mean, median and mode of their ages.
