Instructional Materials (IMs) are very important because they contribute a lot
to student learning and teaching. It is never new to claim that IMs help improve
students' knowledge and skills and it is very helpful to a teacher to manage his class
requirements. There are many literatures that were written to present the relevance
of instructional materials, in general and for mathematics and science teaching, in
particular. Using instructional materials in mathematics and science classes makes
mathematics and science learning fascinating and authentic. It enables both the
teacher and the student to participate enthusiastically in the mathematics and science
learning activities hence, giving the students the opportunity to master the
mathematics and science knowledge and skills aimed by their lessons. By the use of
well- prepared IMs, teachers' self-confidence to deliver their lessons is also
heightened while the students are also given the opportunity to actualize their
learning.

STEP 1: Reviewing the Blogs Developed in Module 3
In this activity, you will exchange and share your general evaluation of the
blogs your class created in Module 3. In the sharing, consider the following:
Do the student sample blogs meet the desired outcomes expectations? Why?
How do the blogs support mathematics or science learning?
STEP 2: List ideas for improving the student sample blogs

What Are the Benefits of Academic Blogging?

Academic blogging helps the students gain various skills. While writing a blog, you
might get multiple benefits.

 Offers opportunity to test an issue, style of presentation, or concept.

 Help to reach a broader range of audiences.

 Improves your writing skills.

 Engage people.

 Enhance your communication skills.

 Sharpens your presentation skills.

- Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can significantly

enhance mathematics and science instruction by addressing interrelated
content topics. By integrating voice, music, video, pictures, and text,
teachers can process data quickly and effectively use these technologies.
The effectiveness of instructional tools in promoting students' academic
performance is evident, as they provide sensory experiences and stimulate
meaningful behavioral change. ICT-based instructional materials can
enhance the teaching-learning process, providing additional avenues for
students to learn mathematics or science independently. This Module
discusses the principles of suitability, adequacy, and efficient utilization of
these technologies in teaching mathematics and science.

Computer-Based Instructional Tools and Materials in Mathematics or

Science Teaching
The numerous technology tools used in mathematics and science teaching are
fully supportive of the different types of instructional materials commonly used in
mathematics and science teaching. Below are some computer-based instructional
tools, strategies, and materials in mathematics and science teaching.
A. Mathematics and Science Instructional Materials Supported by
Technology Tools
The following examples of technology tools can be used in mathematics and science
teaching and learning.
1. Instructional Charts
One of the common types of instructional materials in mathematics and science
teaching and learning is a chart. Charts can be seen on printed materials, but its
presentation can be enhanced and are presented in 3D or 4D form with the aid of
technology. Charts can help mathematics and science learners present data in a more
comprehensive form or enable students to read with greater understanding data and
concepts. By the use of charts, students develop their critical thinking skills and

problem-solving skills. The following are some of the many technology tools that can
be used to develop charts:

a. Microsoft Word
 Microsoft Word does not only allow you to create documents, but it also has a
provision to allow you to create charts or graphs that will add to the visual ap-
peal of your data presentation.
-Microsoft word this can help you to create documents, charts, or graphs.
 Microsoft excels - this tool is can help you to create charts and graphs, for lan-
guage learners, a simple chart in excel is more comprehensible than seeing a
lot of sheets and cells full of numbers.
 Microsoft PowerPoint - offers various tools that can make your presentation in-
teractive.
 los, android, windows phone and iPad chart maker apps are numbers, Viz, 3D
charts, chart maker, graphing calculator HD, Roambi Analytics and graph.

Lesson Summary:
Instructional Materials (IMs) play a crucial role in student learning and
teaching, particularly in mathematics and science. They enhance
students' knowledge and skills, help teachers manage class
requirements, and make learning engaging and authentic. By using well-
prepared IMs, teachers' self-confidence is heightened, and students can
actualize their learning.

Computer-based instructional tools and materials in mathematics and

science teaching are supported by various types of instructional
materials. Instructional charts, such as Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and chart maker apps, can be used to present data in a
more comprehensive and engaging way. These tools help students
develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and can be used to
create documents, charts, and graphs that enhance the visual appeal of
data presentations.
