Water Light Festival in Bressanone: a hymn to light and water. 9 –

25 May 2019 in Bressanone / South Tyrol. The third edition has
been successfully inaugurated.

Over 20 light installations, shows at water sources, sculptural interventions,

videomapping actions and animated films are connected to each other by a spectacular
luminous blue thread. Since yesterday evening, the centre of South Tyrol's third largest
city has been transformed into an open-air art gallery. Local and international artists have
embellished the city center with their special installations playing with the two precious
elements of light and water, giving Bressanone bright and magical places. For 17 days
"Water is life – Light is art" is the central theme of this unique Festival.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of business, politics, tourism,

artists and Brixen. Markus Huber, President of the Brixen Tourist Cooperative, welcomed
the guests and delighted that so many visitors came to Brixen for the opening of this

year's Water Light Festival to celebrate this evening together with the organisers. "The
event represents a great opportunity for Brixen and its surroundings, also in terms of the
city's international positioning at European level," said Huber. The Water Light Festival is
an event that attracts both locals and guests and brings the month of May to life. Also this
year, thanks to the generous support of private companies, it was possible to design an
event of high quality and of the highest artistic level. The joy of the citizens of Bressanone
was already felt in the days of the preparation phase. Mayor Peter Brunner is visibly
satisfied with the popularity of this event among the local population.

Also the provincial councilor Massimo Bessone participating in the opening ceremony,
expressed his gratitude to the organizers and stressed in his speech the importance of
networking business, tourism and culture.

The Water Light Festival officially opened at nine o'clock with the start of all 26 light
installations. Connected by a bright blue line they can be admired throughout the city.

Already on the first evening countless visitors were walking in the alleys of Bressanone to
admire the various installations. A unique atmosphere was created in Brixen and the
enthusiasm of the festival visitors could be felt.

Four times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening at 21 pm you can
follow a guided walking tour (for a fee) of the light installations. Registration by 18 pm of

The event, completely free, is organized by the BrixenCultur Association in collaboration

with Bressanone Tourism supported by the Municipality of Bressanone and the Province
of Bolzano with the High Patronage of the European Parliament, the Ministry of the
Environment and the patronage of the Pontifical Council for Culture. The Water Light
Festival will take place every day from 21:00 to 24:00 in Bressanone until May 25th.
