What are the implications of each headline to the classroom curriculum?
All headlines have similar topics regarding the curricula. The first headline
indicates that there’s a significant change in our education system’s structure. The
second highlights the potential gaps in curricula addressing outdoor and
environmental education. The third one suggests a potential limitation in the flexibility
as well as adaptability of the education system, while the fourth one questions the
co-curricular activities’ impact on learning, emphasizing the need to assess their
educational value. Lastly, parents getting involved in school learning emphasizes the
importance of collaboration between schools and families for a holistic education
approach. Yes, it reflects the current state of schools nationwide and collectively
indicates the dynamic nature of curriculum development and people’s involvement in
shaping our educational practices, hence it is vital for the public to know such issues
as it involves our youth’s future.

Activity 1 – Traditional or Progressive: What is your View of Curriculum?
1. What is your own definition of a curriculum? In not more than 50 words, write
down your answer in the space provided.
A curriculum is a structured and flexible plan comprising educational goals,
content, methods, and assessments designed to guide learning experiences,
hence it is flexible for it deals with the youth. It also serves as a framework for
educators to organize and deliver effective instruction, fostering inclusive and
purposeful learning outcomes.

2. Do you have traditional view of a curriculum, a progressive view or both?


Explain your view based on your definition.
As a future educator, I incorporate both traditional and progressive views
since it is important for me to be organized, and at the same time, I have to
acknowledge the need for flexibility and inclusivity to recognize the changes in
our education and the diverse needs of my future students.
