The Soufrière Hills volcano is an active stratovolcano on the Caribbean island

of Montserrat. After being dormant for a long time, it became active in 1995. It
has been active since then.
Because of its eruptions, no one can live on the Southern Half of Montserrat.
The capital city, Plymouth, was destroyed in June 1997. About two thirds of the
population had to leave Montserrat.
Kilauea is one of five volcanoes that make up the Island of
Hawaii. It is an active shield volcano, and the most active of the
five volcanoes.
Kilauea has created over 500 acres of new land since its
eruptions began in 1983. Kilauea has produced over 500 acres of
new land.
Kilauea is the youngest volcano on Hawaii at between 300,000
and 600,000 years old.
