WARNINGS & CAUTIONS
WARNINGS.
-To avoid injury to maintenance personnel or damage to equipment, make sure that adequate
precautions are taken while performing any work if electrical power is applied to the airplane.
-Make sure that all the circuits in maintenance are isolated before you supply electrical power to the
aircraft.
- Use solvents/cleaning agents, sealants and other special material only with a good supply of air, obey
the manufacturer’s instructions, put on the protective clothing, do not get them in your mouth, do not
smoke, do not breathe the gas, these material are poisonous, flammable and skin irritant, get medical
help if your skin or eyes become irritated.
CAUTION.
-Electrically ground the airplane, and keep all the electrostatic precautions.
-Do not cause damage to the surface of the composite material when you remove the paint coating with
abrasive paper, do not use a metal scraper to remove the unwanted material, a metal scraper can cause
damage to the surface of the component.
-Make sure that you have understood this document and follow their recommendations.
-Make sure that following areas and parts have the correct protection before apply chemical
paint strippers:
rubber, all composite parts, acrylic materials, aerodynamic smoother, metal bonded edges, pitot
probes, sensors, static ports, engine air intake, precooler air outlet screen, engine exhaust duct, APU
exhaust, APU intakes and outlets, airconditioning ram air inlets, landing gears, door seals, access
doors, cabin window and windshield panels and seals, electrical equipment and cables, plastic
materials, external skin panel joints, high strength steel parts, drain holes, vents and all antennas.
Except to aircraft arrived from Airbus manufacture with partial accomplishment of Avianca’s
New Livery Paint, every aircraft must be weighed after this paint process in order to determine
the new aircraft weight and CG location.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
I. Read all steps of this JIC making sure that you have understood every step of the work to be
performed. If you find any discrepancy or if any step is not clear consult the engineer that originated
this JIC.
II. First of all, perform a detailed inspection of the initial condition of the aircraft, making sure that the
aircraft has no damages, the skin is in good condition, the
windows are clean and free of any unwanted materials (like Paint fog). If you find anything, record the
findings in order to take those findings into account at the
end of the job.
1) Use the Masking Tape and Masking Paper (Kraft) to mask the areas adjacent to the work area. Fill the
next table 1.
2) Take of initial measures of thickness of paint system that the aircraft have currently. Fill the table No.2
NOTE : Pay special attention to crew and passenger WINDOWS. Protect all windows in all time of paint
process.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE : If is notified, all painting processes to incorporate the new image in the fuselage, could be made
under the abrasion ( sanding) process or Stripping process.
NOTE : To perform thoroughly abrade with No. 320/240 or grit abrasive paper or with abrasive nylon web
pad. Refer to AIB SRM.
NOTE : Do not sand the Elevators on horizontal stabilizer and the ailerons on wings. Those control
surfaces are not going to be painted. These control surfaces need to meet the weight limitations given
by critical design configuration control limitation (CDCCL).
1) Perform the stripping (strippers) process on airplane removing the external paint system down to the
basic primer (for the paint buildup, refer to Chapter 51-23-11). After preparation of the stripped surface,
the new paint system will be applied.
NOTE:Make sure that the stripper is removed within 30 minutes after application. To ensure this limit, it
is recommended that one person should only apply the stripper to an area not greater than 4 m ² (43 sq.
ft.) at one time.
1.1 Apply a thick coat of stripper in accordance with the manufacturer`s instructions.
1.2 Within 30 minutes remove paint and stripper residues carefully with a soft plastic scraper. This will
reduce the risk of damage to masking and the basic primer.
1.3 Rinse carefully with a water hose, brush the surface, rinse again and let the surface dry.
1.4 Remove all masking tape, films and plugs.
1.5 Mechanically lightly abrade areas that were masked during the stripping and which also require paint
removal. Abrade also any remaining local spots of the old paint systems. Do this with emery cloth
(grade 220 or 320).
1.6 Lightly abrade the stripped areas with SCOTCH-BRITE prior to repainting.
1.7 next to step 4.
2) Perform the abrasion (sanding) process on all airplane surface to be painted in according with New
Image Livery as radome, fuselage, nacelles, vertical stabilizer, belly fairing, wing lets, (see the Attached
C for the areas approved to sanding), nose and main gear doors areas to be painting following the
AMM 51-75-11-100-002-A and SRM 51-75-11 & SRM 51-75-72. Refer to the livery drawing applicable to MSN.
3) After perform the abrasion (sanding) process inspect the work area for damage to sealing beads of
the skin joints.
4) If apply, repair the damaged sealing beads at the skin joints (Ref. AMM TASK 51-76-11-300-001 or A320
SRM 51-76-11 and 51-76-12). Use Airbus products referred in CML OLD Code 09-005, 09-013 to perform
the sealant process.
NOTE: On engines, apply CeramKote 54 TZM and Sealant PR1995. Refer to followings manuals:

4. Prepare the area of the fuselage, engine nacelles (if is required), vertical stabilizer that is going to be
painted. Refer to New Livery drawing applicable to MSN.
NOTE. As far as possible, it is recommended to exceed two hundred microns (350microns max
allowed) of paint system total thickness. The reason behind is not only the possible additional weight
but the static electrical behavior which can potentially be affected and cause unexpected interference.
