ERGONOMICS DESIGNER

Ergonomics can also be referred to as "human factors"

“human factors” – anything that can afffect humans. It can be either

positive or negative.

Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products

and systems so that they fit the people who use them . (Dohrmann Consulting,
2014)

 WORKPLACES – office spaces, factories, stores, hospitals, schools

 PRODUCTS – eyewears, chairs, matresses, shoes, bike saddle
 SYSTEMS – health and safety protocols, emergency contingency plans (Fires,
Earthquakes, etc.), evacuation plans

Ergonomics applies to the design of anything that involves people –

workspaces, sports and leisure, health and safety.

Ergonomic Designers applies specific design to aid the needs and meet
the concerns of the people.
 WORKSPACES – office chairs, office tables, doors, flooring, ventilation, etc.
 SPORTS & LEISURE – apparels, equipments, tools, environment
 HEALTH & SAFETY – wheelchair platforms, evacuation plans, health and safety
protocols
Ergonomics aims to solve the safety concerns from the factors involved in
our everyday lives.

Ergonomics aims to improve environments to minimize risk of injury or

harm.

Observe and inspect environments to check for discrepancies, hazards,

and risks with regards to health and safety.
Ergonomic Designers use their skills to properly address people’s
concerns to avoid further injuries or accidents.
Main concern of ergonomics: MINIMIZE or STOP the RISKS of INJURIES
and HARM
Ergonomic Designers are professionals who specializes in studying
ergonomics to properly address the needs of the people.

Ergonomic Designers may interview people to their concerns and act

accordingly.
People have unique needs which is addressed and solved by Ergonomic
Designers.
Ergonomic Designers employ their mastery of health and safety in order to
design and build something to solve specific problems of human beings.

The particular needs of a person must be considered.

Humans are unique, we all have different body types, body composition,
needs, concerns, etc.

The equipment and gears that a person utilize can affect his/her motor
performance.

Main factors: COMFORTABILITY and ADAPTABILITY

The sporting goods and equipments that athletes use will reflect on their
performance.
NBA players such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, etc. all
have signature shoes are designed and made specifically based on their fit and
preferences for a better playing efficiency and performance on the hardcourt.

Examples of equipments that can be modified ergonomically includes

office equipments, eyewears, sports apparels, sporting equipments, gym
equipments, etc.

 OFFICE EQUIPMENTS – chairs, tables, lighting, ventilation, computers

 EYEWEARS – specific grade, types: anti-radiation, doble vista, reading glasses,
anti-UV sunglasses, and also the frames used
 SPORTING APPARELS – shoes, jerseys, socks, arm/leg sleeve, knee/shoulder
pads, helmets
 SPORTING EQUIPMENTS – flooring, game balls, mats, ventilation, and overall
quality of the gym/arena/venue
 GYM EQUIPMENTS – weights (dumbells, kettle bells), stationary bikes,
treadmills, etc.

Ergonomics must be on top of our priority in order to build a safe and

healthy environment for everyone.
Note: ERGONOMICS is important to consider to prevent injuries or harm
in the execution of motor movements. The apparels and equipments we use will
reflect on our overall motor performance.
