SECTION 01 77 01

HOT WORKS OPERATIONS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This section describes the operations of ‘HOT WORKS’ permitting during:

B. The construction Section, when the Site is controlled by the Contractor.

C. The post construction Section when the Taking-Over Certificate (TOC) has been
issued and the facility is under the control of the Employer.

PART 2 - EXECUTION

2.1 CONSTRUCTION SECTION

A. During the construction Section, the Site will be under the control of the Contractor.
Contractor shall develop and implement a ‘HOT WORKS’ permit system during the
construction period until the facility reaches the issuance of a TOC. This permit system
must be approved by Employer.

1. Develop the Hot Works procedures and submit to Engineer prior to the
commencement of any works.

2. Procedures shall be in outline form or as required by the Engineer.

2.2 POST CONSTRUCTION SECTION

A. At the conclusion of the construction of the project and directly after the issuance of the
TOC, the facility shall be controlled and operated by the Employer. At this time all ‘HOT
WORKS’ permits shall be issued, controlled, and governed by KKIA including all their
requirements as applicable to hot works operations within an operating facility.

• Visit Engineer
• Collect a Permit to Work form
• If your work includes Hot works, request a Hot Work Permit Form also.
Step 1

• Return completed PTW and HWP forms to Engineer


• Engineer will review the form for system isolation, signature if required in Section C
• Reqestor signs Section D
Step 2 • Engineer scan the document plus attachments, for record and issue.

• Engineer forward the HWP form and attachments to Employer


• Employer will review the HWP form and attachments
• Employer provide Approval with comments or Reject with comments, in Section E
Step 3 • Employer will email back the reply to Engineer

• Engineer issue the work permit to the Requestor


• Hot works proceed with Fire Watch timing recorded in Section F
• Hot works are completed, followed by a minimum 30 minute fire watch of the area of work
Step 4 • Fire Watch finish time is recorded in Section F

• Permit form is returned to Engineer to scan for record purposes.
