FUNCTION:
➢ Function is a relation which relates each element of Domain (values of “x”) with the Range
(values of “y”).
➢ Function is denoted by y, f(x) or f : x.
For example; y = 𝑥 + 1
𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 + 1
𝑓 ∶ 𝑥 → 𝑥 + 1.
➢ Problems of evaluation:

Example: 1
(i) Given that 𝑓 ∶ 𝑥 → 𝑥 2 + 3, write down value of f (-2).[p1]
12
(ii) 𝑓 ∶ 𝑥 → 𝑥+2 , 𝑥 ≠ −2. Given that the domain of f is the set S= {-1,0,1} find the range of f under S.[p1]
