CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Back in the day Korean wave is only popular within parts of Asia. As the time advanced

to social media dominated world. Korean waves transformed to Korean pop or K – pop. One will

be able to recognize immediately when asked about K – pop either they answer BTS the famous

K- pop groups who dominated not only in Korea but also Hollywood. In the Philippines, K – pop

is another subculture which has a reach of thousands of adoring fans, forming groups to support

their K – pop artist or idols. As a Filipino fans of K – Pop and Korean music, most influence by

Korean idols to buy foods and products that they eat or their favorites, that is how devoted or

fanatic a Filipino can be to Korean idols that they can buy and eat everything because their idols

also consume it. K – pop and their music have positively contributed to south Korean diplomacy,

economy, human rights, movements, and the countries, global status for decades, especially

during times of high political tensions as such, Korean culture and trends as in Korean K – pop

have invaded and been deeply rooted in Philippines society today. Korean K – pop have greatly

influenced the food, passions, cosmetic, music, and entertainment industry, as well as people’s

views and preferences. It makes youth additional towards a group. It gives them hope to marry

their idol or have an idol for themselves. K – pop has a different and unique styles from other

music industries. They not only provide music but also tell story through their music. In general,

K – pop or Korean idol give inspiration to the new generation, special the youth. Many people

mental health and morals have been positively impacted by the messages in several K-pop songs

and K-pop as a result of seeing how their favorite celebrities can speak numerous other

languages, many people have begun learning the language and several other languages thus

becoming more confident.
