CHALLENGE 4: DEMOCRATISATION

What are the threats to democracy?

We, as Filipinos, due to our blood history with multiple colonizations of

different countries and the rule of the Marcos family, believe that democracy is
what our ancestors fought for for a long time, which makes it more valuable now
in the present time. Democracy gave us and our ancestors the freedom that they
were yearning for, and now mostly people take advantage of it. As the Philippines
is under democratic rule, the Filipino citizen has the freedom to choose and be
involved politically and with the state government. However, although it gave us
people freedom, it also requires responsibilities as citizens, as we are given the
power to rule and choose our leader. But due to the lack of civic education among
many Filipinos, there are a lot of threats and problems that we, as citizens, are at
fault for due to the democracy that we have right now.

As we have the freedom to choose who to vote for as our leader, although
people think it is a good thing, it also causes disagreement due to different opinions
and beliefs. Another is that as many Filipinos find politics complex and
complicated, they opt to not involve themselves or be apolitical, which leads to
disengagement. Although politics in general affects people's lives and people's
political decisions affect each and every one of us, especially if we are not
privileged, they still choose to not be involved and most of the time be neutral. This
could also lead to another threat, which is corruption, if people do not choose the
right leaders, which has been visible in our government for a long time and is also
a fruit of democracy. Another threat is the spread of disinformation and fake news.

As we have access to different mediums, like media platforms, and the freedom to
use them, disinformation can be easily spread and reach a wide audience. It can
also be used in politics to influence people's minds and opinions.

We can see that the majority of the threats listed above are due to people and the
state itself. It is as if we ourselves are digging, as if it is not yet as deeply rooted
as it is. Due to people's lack of civic education and awareness, they make people's
lives harder, as I believe our political stances and choices affect and involve one
another. Show your concern for your fellow countrymen and the next generation.
Democracy is a good thing as it gives us freedom and platforms to express our
opinions, but it is necessary that they are based on facts. It is also something that
we want the next generation to have, but not with leaders whose hearts are not in
serving their citizens.

CHALLENGE 6: GLOBAL CONVERGENCE OF INFORMATION AND

COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICT)

How do you think that acceleration in Artificial Intelligence can Impact the
future of work.

We cannot deny that the technology these days and how it evolve in the past
years are fascinating as it also helps in our daily lives in many ways as well as in
different field of work. Artificial Intelligence or AI is one of the technological
innovation that is popular these days. There are AI voices that can mimic people
or celebrity’s voices that most of us find entertaining as well sites that can create
arts or answers questions which are popular with students as it is can be really
helpful in some ways with the proper use of it.

However we cannot also deny that these technologies’ advances are quite
disturbing as it can think and be as like human, think and move like human to the
point people opt to use it like in business industry and if it will continue it will be
possible AI technologies can replace human power means employment will
decrease as well. In contradictory with that, adopting AI with human skill can create
a great synergy and lead to more productive and improve efficiency and effectives
in work. AI could also be an another field of work means there will be employment
regarding AI technology such as experts or analyst specialist for people such
businesses who wants to adopt AI technologies know what and how to use AI in
their respective fields.

Overall, the acceleration of AI could reshape the nature of future work. There
may be challenges and disruptions, but there will also be new opportunities and
possibilities for individuals and organizations to flourish through the use of artificial
intelligent (AI) technologies.
