Hoaxes, Fake News and Hate Speech

The manipulation of public opinion is probably one of the most important challenges of
our day. In Venezuela, the goverment actually spreads fake news, hoaxes, and hate
speeches about demonstrators on social media. And in Indonesia when the Papua case
there was a hoax that came from twenty countries. But, before I deliver my speech I
want a say Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wa barakatuh, Good Morning the
honorable judges and all audience. Okay, anyway do you know guys what different
between fake news, hoaxes and hate speech? Well, Okay we learn together and I will
explain it. Fake news is said if the news is not delivered properly from a news source
from an official media, and hoax is an information that is not yet clear the truth and
can’t be proven true. Historically, different between hoaxes and fake news. And hate
speech is an act of communication carried out by an individual or group in the form of
provocation, incitement, or insults to other individuals or groups in terms of various
aspects such as race, skin color, ethnic, gender, disability, sexual orientation,
citizenship, religion, and other.

Social media and the internet play a very vital role. Why?, because as we know social
media is widely used by the community to communicate. And the media as a free
market because the information contained there in is not filtered. There are no limits to
what you can have, what you can do, or what you can be. The social media might have
Youtube Chanel, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others. But still inferior to Lambe
Accounts. There are many weirdos on social media and adults who pretend to be
teenagers or even important people of the country with different goals of course.

Take example Twitter, where the creator wants Twitter as a forum for “free speech” for
the community. But, based on research found the fact that hoaxes spread faster than
news clarification/justification, on the Twitter platform. In fact, hoax content
disseminators are not bots or programs in the Twitter system, but human nature that
often retweets wrong news without thinking. This study also explained that 70% of fake
news was retweeted more than true news or clarification. Hoax about politics is more
popular than other categories. The reason is quite simple. Researchers say, humans are
happy about new things.The risk is that, we as human are very naïve.

Okay, simple example like someone writes you something beautiful, or say “I Love
You”, and you believe that. It’s better not to simply trust things but also to double
check. May be he already has a girlfriend?. Or may be got married. Okay anyway,
why?, why? We have to double check?. Because we must understand why it is so
important to look for the primary sources of information and use our skills in using the
internet wisely and safely. Okay, come on imagine!. Imagine that the internet is hammer
and you can nails with hammer. Repair things but also break them. It is critically
important to know how to use it. Remember that we have the skills and also right to
inform and actively participate in society. Okay that’s all about my speech. Hopefully
