ACTIVITY

Analysi ☞ What do you think our topic or

s lesson all about?
☞ As you answer the activity, what did
you notice?
☞ Do you already know how to find
the area of the circle?
Abstraction The teacher further discussed the
lesson about finding the area of the
circle.

The formula in finding the area of a circle

in A = πr². A represents the area of a circle.
The constant used in the calculation of the
area of a circle is π, and it has a fractional
numeric value of 22/7 or a decimal value
of 3.14.

Circumference – is the distance around the

circle

Diameter - is the distance across a circle

through its center.

π – it is a Greek letter called “pi”

- It’s also represent the ratio of the
circumference of a circle to its
diameter.

To calculate the area of a circle

you must remember these steps:

1. Identify the radius of a

circle. The radius is also one
half of the diameter of a
circle.
2. Square the radius. The
formula to find the area of a
circle is A= πr2, where r
is a variable that represents
the radius. This variable is
squared.
3. Multiply by pi.
Approximately 3.14
4. Report your result.
Remember that the area is
expressed in "square" units.
Examples:

How do we solve the area of a circle?

Using the formula on what we learned a
while ago, let us help Mr. Suarez compute
the amount nylon needed to build a
trampoline for his kids

Solution:
d
r=2 A = πr²
A = 3.14 x
(7ft) ²
14 ft
r= 2 A=
3.14 x 7 ft x 7ft r =
7 ft A=
3.14 x (49 ft²)
A = 153.86 ft²

Therefore, Mr. Suarez needs to

purchase 153.86 ft² of nylon to
build a trampoline.

Let's look at some another example

involving areas of circles. Use π= 3.14 in
all examples and calculations.

Example 1:
The radius of a circle is 3 meters.
What is the area of the circle?

Solution: A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (3 m) ²
A=
3.14 x (9 m²)
A = 28.26 m²

Example 2:
The diameter of a dart board is 8
centimeters. What is the area of the circle?
Solution:
d
A = πr²
r= A = 3.14 x
(4cm) ²
2
A = 3.14 x 4
cm
8 x 4 cm
r=
2 A = 3.14 x
(16 cm²)
r = 4 cm A = 50.24
cm²
Therefore, the area of a dart board is 50.24
cm².

Application Directions: Read the sentence carefully and

tell if the statement is True or False.

1. The first rule in getting False

the area of a circle is multiply by
𝜋. false
2. We do not square the
unit to express the area of a circle. true
3. The formula in getting
the radius is r
true
=
true
4. 𝐴=𝜋𝑟2 can be written as
𝐴=𝜋 x 𝑟 x r.
5. The area formula of a
circle is
𝐴=𝜋𝑟 .
2

Directions: Solve this problem

individually.

1. A therapy pool in a water spa is in

the shape of a 7-meter-wide circle.
How much material would it take
to cover it?
What is the answer in the problem?

r = 2d A = πr²
A = 3.14 x
(3.5 m) ²
7m
r= 2 A = 3.14 x
(12.25 m²)
r = 3.5m A = 38.47

The area of a material needed to
cover the therapy pool is 41.65m².

2. Every time it rains, Mrs. Flores

saves water in a big clay jar called
‘tapayan’. She covers them with a
circular galvanized iron with a
radius of 5 dm. What is the area of
the circular cover? What is the
answer in the problem?

A = πr²
A=
3.14 x
(5 dm)
²A=
3.14 x
(25

A = 78.5 dm²

Lesson Proper

ACTIVITY The teacher will present some images

according to the video what they have
watch.
Analysis The teacher further discussed the
lesson about weathering of rocks.

Weathering is the breaking of rock in

fragments.

There are two types of weathering:

Mechanical and Chemical
weathering.

What is the mechanical

weathering?
Mechanical weathering it is the
physical wearing a way of rocks.

While the chemical weathering

It involves a change in the
composition of rocks that allows
them break down in the pieces.

Agents of Weathering

Water, wind, temperature, plants,

animals, and humans.

Water can break rocks in different

ways for example the strong
waves hitting the rocks can make it
break also water can seep in to the
cracks of the rocks and when it’s
get colder, these water can expand
and turn into ice which can trigger
rocks to break.

The wind causes many beautiful

formations like the Mahayaw Arch
in Sabtang Isalnd, Batanes,
Philippines. As the wind blows, it
carries sand or small rock particles
that scratch the rocks’ surface.
This can bring about mechanical
weathering which can also result to
different rock formations.

Temperature, when rocks are

exposed to varying temperature, it
expands. If rocks are exposed to a
low temperature, it contracts. The
repeated expansion and
contraction of rocks due to
changes in temperature results in
weathering.

Plants, some plants, like lichens,

ferns, and mosses, can also trigger
weathering. How? It can grow on
rocks and cause it to break into
pieces. Eventually, metabolic or
life process of these plants will
cause the gradual breakage of
rocks into smaller pieces.

Animals that live underground also

contributes to weathering. As
borrowing animals dig deeper, they
cause rocks to break into pieces,
too.

Humans example, subdivision

developers use bulldozers to
flatten mountains or hills to build
houses. Some construction
workers use jackhammer to break
boulders of rock as they repair
roads.
Abstraction What is our topic all about?
What is mechanical weathering of
rocks?
What is chemical weathering of rocks?
What are the different agents of
weathering?

Application Direction: Put your answer on the

space provided before the number. If
the statement is true answer the word
ROCK and if the statement is false
answer the word STONE.
