 RAP Data - Bottom 22%: School result (75%) was 1% below state average (76%)

The region enclosed by and is shaded in the diagram below.

y
HISTORICAL CONTRIBUTION y=x

F1 Further Work With Functions has contributed a healthy 9.1% per new syllabus Ext1 exam since it
4
was introduced in 2020.
This topic has been split into four categories for analysis purposes which are: 1-Graphical
Relationships (2.9%), 2-Inequalities (1.9%), 3-Inverse Functions (3.3%) and 4-Parametric Functions
(1.0).
This analysis looks at Inequalities. O 4 x

HSC ANALYSIS - What to expect and common pitfalls

y= 4− x
Inequalities (1.9%) has been examined with a dedicated question in the 2022 and 2020 new syllabus
Ext1 exams (only absent in 2021). Going further back, it has been a super consistent contributor,
tested 8 times in the last decade. y = 2x + 1
When examined, the mark allocation has been a minimum of 3 marks, with 2020 and 2013 the only
outliers with an allocation of just 1 mark. Which of the following defines the shaded region?
Algebraic fraction inequalities are easily the most common question type from past Ext1 papers, last (A)
examined in 2022. A key revision area.
(B)
Absolute value inequalities were regularly examined in the old Mathematics course and are a gift
from examiners if asked. Numerous examples are included in the database. (C)
Graphing inequality regions was a sneaky contributor to the old Mathematics course, asked 6 times (D)
since 2011 and producing sub-50% mean marks half the time.
The content in this area is expected to present band 3-4 level difficulty questions with meaningful
mark allocations. Revision here should aim of eliminate errors and get ahead of the exam clock, in
that order!
