closed. Universal Silencer, currently part of the Cummins
Filtration business, is a global manufacturer of industrial noise
control and air filtration systems for diesel and gaseous-fueled
engines, gas turbines and compressors. Established in 1959, it
is headquartered in Stoughton, Wisconsin, U.S.A., and has
manufacturing in the U.S. and Mexico. The company employs
230 people. A transition process has begun and the sale expect-
ed to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2007. A

EPA Tier II Compliance for GE Diesels


GE Transportation has received United States Environ-
mental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier II emissions compliance
certification for its V228 diesel engine family. In order for the
EPA to grant Tier II compliance certification, GE submitted
results from emissions testing conducted on its 8-, 12- and
16-cylinder V228 engines at its Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.,
facility. GE’s V228 family includes the 8V228, 12V228 and
16V228 engine configurations for power ranges from 1004
to 3355 kW. A

Wärtsilä announced that it has inaugurated a new US$42
million assembly hall and logistics center in Vaasa, Finland.
Deutz AG announced that it has completed the sale of
Deutz Power Systems, its former gas engines and diesel
engines business for decentralized power generation to the
private equity firm 3i.
In conjunction with the planned expansion of its Houston-
based global headquarters facility, Turbine Air Systems
(TAS) recently announced the ground breaking for a new
manufacturing and administrative office building that will
effectively double the current manufacturing capacity of TAS.
The ARB has verified the Vycon REGEN System for rub-
ber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes equipped with Pre-Tier 1
(pre-1996 model year) off-road diesel engines or Tier 1, Tier
2 or Tier 3 certified off-road diesel engines.
The Tognum Group was recently awarded the ISO
14001 certificate for environmental management at all of
its production facilities. The newly acquired Katolight
Corp. will also be certified within the next 12 months.
Woodward Governor Co. has expanded the territory of
Governor Control Systems to include the U.S. states of
Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. A
