Background of The Study

These days, everyone agrees that exercise plays a crucial role in improving

one’s physical and mental well-being. It has many advantages, including strengthening

bones and muscles, lowering the risk of disease, improving cognitive function, helping

with weight management, and making it easier to carry out daily tasks, according to the

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Ashish Sharma, Vishal Madaan,

and Frederick D. Petty (2006) state that it also has a major impact on mental health,

lowering symptoms of anxiety, depression, and depressive mood as well as enhancing

self-esteem and cognitive function. The basis of our inquiry into the particular effects of

physical activity on the student body at Bato National High School is these findings.

Exercise in educational contexts requires a nuanced approach, as demonstrated

by JE Blundell, Catherine Gibbons, Phillipa Caudwell, Graham Finlayson, and Mark

Hopkins (2015), who introduce the idea that individual reactions to exercise can be very

diverse and difficult to anticipate. Exercise has been shown to improve mood, alertness,

concentration, sleep patterns, and even psychotic symptoms. It can also improve quality

of life through social interaction, meaningful time spent, purposeful activity, and

empowerment, according to Kristy Alexandratos, Fiona Barnett, and Yvonne Thomas

(2012).

Theoretical Framework
Investigating the impact of exercise among students at Bato National High

School is informed by the key findings of Alexandratos et al. (2012) and Shantakumar et

al. (2022), which collectively underscore the comprehensive benefits of physical activity

on mental and physical health, as well as academic performance. The research of

Alexandratos and colleagues illustrates how exercise participation not only improves

mood, alertness, concentration, and sleep quality but also reduces psychotic symptoms,

significantly enhancing overall quality of life through increased social interaction,

meaningful use of time, purposeful activity, and empowerment. Similarly, the study by

Shantakumar et al. highlights a positive link between the duration of exercise and

enhancements in physical and mental health status, along with significant gains in

academic performance and confidence among medical undergraduate students. This

foundation will direct the exploration into whether such patterns are evident within Bato

National High School, positing that regular physical activity might be a pivotal factor in

boosting students’ comprehensive well-being and academic achievement.

Statement of the Problem

The study aims to explore the Impact of regular exercise among students at Bato

National High School. The researchers seek to address the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the student respondents participating in

the

study?

2. Can students share experiences where they felt that exercise significantly

impacted their mental health, particularly in managing stress and emotional well-being?

3. How do students at Bato National High sSchool qualitatively describe the

impact of exercise in terms of:

3.1 Academic Performance

3.2 Mental Health

3.3 Social Interactions

Importance of the Study

Students. This study highlights the potential benefits of regular exercise on the

physical and mental well-being of students at Bato National High School, encouraging

healthier lifestyle choices.

Teachers. It offers teachers insights into the positive effects of physical activity

on student engagement and performance, supporting the integration of exercise into

educational curricula.

The Researchers. For the researchers, this study provides valuable data on the

impact of exercise on adolescent health and academic outcomes, contributing to the

broader field of educational and health psychology.

Future Researchers. Future researchers can utilize this study as a foundation

for further exploration into the long-term benefits of physical activity in educational

settings, expanding the scope of research on student health and wellness.

Scope and Limitation

This study investigates the effects of exercise on the mental, physical, and

academic well-being of students at Bato National High School, utilizing interviews and

observations to understand the impact of various exercise intensities throughout an

academic year. It aims to explore how exercise influences students’ social interactions,

mental health, and performance in an educational setting.

Not all students may be able to participate in the study, potentially introducing

selection bias and limiting the representation of diverse perspectives within the student

population at Bato National High School.

Definition of the study
Exercise. The systematic physical activity aimed at improving or maintaining physical

fitness, health, and overall well-being.

Mental Health. The state of well-being in which an individual realizes their own

abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is

able to make a contribution to their community.

Social Interactions. The dynamic exchange between individuals or groups,

encompassing communication, cooperation, and relationships, which shape social behaviors,

norms, and identities.

Academic Performance. The measurable outcomes of an individual’s learning and

achievement within an educational setting, typically assessed through grades, test scores, and

other academic indicators.

also mention what motivates you to choose these types of exercises.

5.Can you explain what personal motivations drive you to engage in physical activity?

How do these motivations influence your choice of exercise?

6.Reflecting on your academic performance, have you observed any changes that you

would attribute to your exercise habits? Please describe these changes, if any.

7.In what ways do you believe engaging in exercise affects your stress levels and

overall mental health? Please share any specific experiences where you noticed these effects.

8.How has participating in physical activities impacted your interactions and

relationships with peers at school? Can you provide examples of positive or negative impacts?

9.Discuss the main barriers or challenges you face in maintaining a regular exercise

routine. How do you navigate or overcome these challenges?

10.Based on your experience, how could Bato National High School better support its

students in incorporating exercise into their daily routines? Please offer specific suggestions or

ideas.
