Trend 1: Mobile application

In addition, Shopee's mobile applications have greatly improved people's daily lives.
For instance, it makes shopping more convenient by enabling users to peruse and buy
things whenever and wherever they want (MOTOCMS, 2023). Customers can utilise
the keyword search function within the Shopee mobile app, allowing them to easily
find items by entering relevant keywords into the search bar on the homepage Shopee,
2024). This is the search function in the Shopee mobile app (Appendix 1). On the
Shopee app homepage, users can type keywords into the search field. The results can
then be sorted and seen by price, latest, relevancy, hot selling, or filter for more
specific items (Shopee, 2024). Additionally, the Shopee app offers an image search
feature where customers can take photos of items they see in stores. This feature
swiftly provides online prices, typically offering more choices at competitive rates
(Shopee, 2024). This is within the Shopee mobile app results of the image search
function (Appendix 2).

Shopee has launched the Shopee Live feature on its mobile app, allowing users to
watch sellers’ product demonstrations in real time and interact directly with sellers
(Shopee, 2024b). Customers can access Shopee Live by selecting the Shopee Live
shortcut icon on the Shopee app homepage (Appendix 3). This means customers can
watch the live broadcast and make purchases anytime, anywhere using their
smartphones (Shopee, 2024b). If customers want to find a Shopee Live session that
interests them, they can scroll through the available content on the Shopee Live page
or use the Coin, New, Latest, Upcoming, or Replay tabs. Filter sessions (Appendix 4).
Although the Shopee mobile app has a huge user base and wide product selection and
is the largest e-commerce platform in Malaysia, there are still some barriers affected
by Shopee mobile application, which are the customers need some technical skill
requirements in using the Shopee application. This is because using the Shopee
mobile application requires certain technical skills, such as customers need to know
the basics of how to navigate the mobile app, browse product lists, make purchases,
and track orders. Therefore, customers who lack these skills may find it challenging to
understand complex instructions and find using the Shopee app, leading to customers
becoming frustrated and annoyed and choosing not to use the Shopee mobile
application app (Fullmer, 2023).
In the Shopee mobile application, there are two major barriers, one of which is the
security issue. This is because the customers are required to provide sensitive banking
and credit card details when making transactions or purchasing goods, this situation
will increase the risk of customers' bank and credit cards being stolen by hackers.
Even with security measures in place for customers and Shopee mobile apps, hackers
and malware continue to evolve their strategies and techniques, posing potential
threats. Therefore, continuous software updates are crucial to combat these threats,
but ensuring the security of applications requires significant investment. Nonetheless,
the investment proves to be worthwhile in the long run as it increases trust and
confidence among users, effectively protecting their data and transactions (Oppizi,
2023).

Shopee has develop the Livestream feature on its app, allow the users watch product-
related content and engage directly with sellers. This interactive platform enables
users to discover new sellers and products while participating in exclusive Shopee
Live activities for special deals.

To discover a Shopee Live session of your interest, you can either scroll through the
Shopee Live page to see what's available or utilize the tabs to filter sessions by Coins,
New, Latest, Upcoming, or Replay (Appendix3).

They can further refine their search results by sorting them according to relevance,
latest arrivals, popularity, price, or applying filters for specific products (Shopee,
2024).

This is because customers can search for items using the keyword search function on
the Shopee app (Shopee, 2024). Customers also can use the Shopee mobile app image
search feature to take photos of items in the store, and when the customer sees it, it
quickly shows us the online price, which is usually cheaper and has more choices
(Shopee, 2024).
